A couple of weeks ago, Shane mentioned that it would be great to be able to see the Chaomi.cc data in USD vs. RMB and asked if anyone would like to put that data together to post on DSAD. Coincidentally, I had just started working on putting that information together for my own uses, and I jumped at the chance to work with Shane on the data. Real data is extremely helpful when you are participating in a liquid market like equities or 4L.com domains. We started gathering this data just over a week ago which is enough time to put together the chart you see below. As time goes on, we’ll be able to show weekly, monthly and other trends which will be even more meaningful. I’ll also be pulling in more data sources to get a better picture of the Chinese market.
We tried posting this data a few different ways, and it ended up looking best posted as an image — please click to see the actual size image. If this is a problem, I’m open to figuring out a better way to post the table. Let me know in the comments below.
I want to include a few notes about the data. What you are seeing is the average USD price for the day by name category and by tld along with the 1-day and 7-day percentage change. When possible, I thought it best to average actual sales for the day rather than use the number on the Chaomi home page. Infrequently auctioned categories, such as 3I.com, 3L.com, 3N.com and 4N.com, do not have enough actual sales data to determine the average, and I do pull the home page number any time that is the case. ** Again, be careful when using the table to value names in infrequently auctioned categories as those numbers are not based on average sales prices.
Most of the descriptions are easily understood, but just in case there are questions:
N = Numeric
I = Initial (a letter not including a,e,i,o,u,v)
C = Character (any number or letter)
I’m unable to read the table on my mobile phone.
I noticed that it was a little odd viewing the image on my phone as well. You have to click the image twice to get it to expand so that you can scroll and read it properly. I’ll tinker with the table code to see if I can make it look good without having to use an image.
