CHINESE SALES TRENDS FOR MARCH 11, 2016

We haven’t looked closely at 6N.com (No 0/4) lately.  Like most categories, the trend for these names is definitely down over the past month.  It has been a gradual fall as you can see from the images below the charts.  On most days, there is decent volume.  The best numbers and patterns are still doing well, but the run of the mill numbers are declining and haven’t found a floor yet.

  1. Even though we have never sold a lot of domains, nevertheless we have in-place a really good mechanism to get ongoing sale inquiries. It took years of hard work, experience, testing and effort to develop the domain inquiry system. If this sales system was in-place before the market for our type of domains turned-down I am sure we would have sold a lot of domains. Mostly due to bad luck, market conditions and poor timing as time passed by and we made the sales mechanism better and better the market for our kind of domains declined so we did not see much benefit from the inquiry/sales system.

Even though our strong sales methodology is not resulting in many serious inquiries compared to the past it has an excellent capability of predicting the market strength. For example, almost a year ago, early Spring 2015 or more specifically April/May time period we noticed a very sharp decline in domain for sale inquiries, both from online inquiries and via emails. For example, we would get roughly 4 or 5 (or even more) inquiries on a typical DAY but then an abrupt decline to maybe 4 or 5 or less a WEEK vs daily in the past. We are referring there mostly to multiple word keyword names.

Within a short slow time the inquiries quickly skyrocketed again starting approximately May/June 2015 however they were not nearly as valuable to us since inquiries were mostly on acronym and numerical domains, especially 5-number .coms and 4 letter acronym type dot-coms The reason I say not nearly as valuable as the old heavy activity in keyword names is because many of the inquiries were from China and involved low priced fishing expeditions and few sales. That activity was even less beneficial because we had such a small percentage of names Chinese buyers liked such as CHIPS, etc.

That strong activity regarding Chinese preferred names lasted until the February 2016 time frame when Chinese inquiries literally fell off the cliff going from several a day to a couple a week. That steeply negative trend continues today when several days may go by with no inquiries. So now we are back to where we were in the past with very few long keyword inquiries and the Chinese, Numerical and CHIPS buyers also gone.

Today our main hope is anticipating Chinese buyers will eventually migrate to keyword English domains, especially 2, 3 or even longer word names, and US buyers once again seek high intrinsic value well targeted long keyword domains. However, thus far we seek little if any evidence that is happening. BTW, as you can tell by reading about vast numbers of freshly registered domains in some of the new extensions such as dot-top and others Chinese buying is strong overall but it appears to mostly involve low priced and reg fee new extensions so it has little direct impact on most domainers.
