Domain Shane’s Daily List of Domains at Auction for Wed July 19th

Escrow.com

Two word generics have become the dot nets of 2017.  Very tough to move.   Unless it is a major category or product, end users are searching for a brand.  Their name in its shortest form.  For instance, a hobby company (made up) that is  called Bright Hobby is either looking for Bright.com or BrightHobby.com .  They most likely aren’t going to use HobbyCompany.com or HobbySupplies.com because they want to build their name.  They could have a stand alone site called HobbySupplies that they run but its not going to represent their entire company.  And BrightHobby lets you know that they are a hobby company.   Right now the best market is pawning the second tier generics off on a buyer that doesn’t realize they are second tier.  I’m sure there are exceptions but I am just as sure there are a great deal of domain investors that don’t know which names are the exceptions.

On another note, our tagline for this site is “Domain Auction Specialist”.  Which means we make our living using the domain name auction houses.  I have not talked about it publicly but I have talked about it with the people that manage the auction houses.  In order to keep the faith of the buyer and sellers on these platforms the bidding must be natural.  An unnatural bid is a bid that was made by an owner or collaborator that somehow effects the natural flow of the auction.  ANY bid.  It doesn’t matter if it was first, in the middle or last.  Adding in those bids effects the natural flow of the auction that would have happened without the shill bid.   TLDPros was a part of unnatural bidding at Namejet and I reported it and Namejet took care of it.    I refused to take advertising money from TLD Pros because of this   The other blogs may or may not have known.    But I won’t be a part of it.  I have never EVER bid on my own auctions or any that I had anything to do with.  The auction house are too big of a part of my income to do anything ethically or legally wrong.

Jonathan at Namepros has ALWAYS handled my concerns professionally when I had a problem with someone I thought was effecting the natural flow of the auction. Always.  He either imposed a ban if he saw it again or showed me data to prove my accusations were not correct.   I can only speak for what I know but I have 100% confidence in NameJet and not because they pay me.  I have proven that I am willing to pass up thousands of dollars in income if I think the people I am working with aren’t on the up and up.   I am positive Namejet will do what it takes to make sure their platform is a natural bid auction platform.  Our industry needs it to be.  And I don’t care who is abusing the system.  I don’t care if Ghandi is bidding on his own names.  I want Ghandi either stop bidding or leave the platform.   And second, you all need Namejet.

Here are today’s names. Click for most recent price

  1. Anyway I am totally against shill bidding and this shouldn’t be allowed in any auction platform whether it’s domains, cars, houses, antiques or anything else.

Namejet clearly state when listing domains that you won’t bid or tell anyone you know to bid on domains that you are listing for auction. So I don’t understand who can argue for shill bidding, like I am seeing on the namepros post about this.

  2. You cannot get any worse than on godaddy, i have never seen a platform with so many fake registrations.

The problem lies where godaddy offer you the name when the first bidder pulls out so when you see two bids taking a domain to a ridiculous price you know its the same person and they know that by not paying for the domain with their fake account allows them to buy the domain next to nothing with their real account.

This is a serious problem with godaddy and it happens everyday and i have raised concerns about it and it just falls on deaf ears.

    1. Stu,

The lack of transparency at Godaddy makes no sense to me but I love the inventory. And I really do think the guys running the show there care about the platform as well.

    1. Jonathan,

Long story short, TLD claimed they didn’t realize what they were doing was wrong. Namejet gave them a chance to continue if they let the auctions continue naturally.

  3. Good to see one of our industry’s most well-known names making his standpoint clear.

It has happened too often that new “stars” show up on the scene and later it turns out all was not right. I hope it is not the case this time around, but it needs to be investigated.

  4. “The lack of transparency at Godaddy makes no sense to me but I love the inventory. And I really do think the guys running the show there care about the platform as well.”

That answer will be the envy from any guy from the US Congress reading this post.

If there’s “care”, how come can it be “lack of transparency..?

  5. Not to stick up for Godaddy, but I don’t worry about it that much because the vast majority of names listed and the names I bid on are expired inventory. I doubt they’re bidding their own inventory up. Often the weird bidding at Godaddy comes from API scripts.

  6. “I am positive Namejet will do what it takes to make sure their platform is a natural bid auction platform. ”

This should already be the case though.

“I don’t care if Ghandi is bidding on his own names. I want Ghandi either stop bidding or leave the platform. ”

    It’s spelt Gandhi.

“And second, you all need Namejet.”

On the contrary, NJ needs the buyers, people with money to spend will always have options.
