Domain Spotlight:

Below is another look at a few recent domain flips and flops, with data courtesy of NameBio.

Flips

ParkTerrace.com sold for 5,000 USD at Sedo, vs 525 USD on 2015-04-08 at GoDaddy. Looks like a new hotel is coming….this one forwards to ParkTerraceHotel.com, although that domain doesn’t resolve yet. The domain is owned by a company named Club Quarters Hotels, which owns numerous hotels in NYC and elsewhere.

ArtLibrary.com sold for 7,888 USD recently at Sedo, vs 2,005 USD on 2013-10-09 privately. Domain still shows in transfer at Sedo. Over 3x return after commission in a little over three years.

SellBitcoin.com sold for 6,000 USD recently at Sedo, vs 199 USD on 2013-04-22 at GoDaddy. Under privacy and no site resolves yet. Everyone likes a 25x return in a little under four years.

Breakable.com sold for 6,044 USD recently by Braden Pollock, vs 915 USD on 2006-08-30 at Afternic. Although I know Braden didn’t pick it up way back in 2006, that is the only other publicly available price. The domain was acquired by Frederick Mercier, and he’s describing the new business as follows, “Breakable is a media company that helps consumers make better choices before they buy online. The twist? We destroy the best product of each category.” A screenshot of his logo is below.

Flops

OIR.com sold for 24,950 USD recently at NameJet, vs 24,999 USD on 2016-09-22 at Sedo. Only a 3-ish month hold….maybe they thought they were getting a smoking buy at Sedo, but apparently not…..after you factor in the sales commission, it’s a loss of nearly $3,800.

OZX.com sold for 17,000 USD recently at NameJet, vs 24,999 USD on 2015-12-21 at Sedo. A loss of over $10k after commission….nearly $1k per month of the hold period.

LLLR.com sold for 3,388 USD recently at NameJet, vs 8,300 USD on 2015-12-18 at NameJet. Ouch, a loss of about 2/3 after commission in 13 months.

AffiliateMarketing.net sold for 2,250 USD recently at Flippa, vs 16,500 USD on 2014-04-16 at Uniregistry. Reselling a name you bought from Frank Schilling will go poorly 99% of the time.

Note: I didn’t do an exhaustive search of the ownership history of each domain. There are likely cases where there were multiple owners between the sales prices I list.
