Domain Spotlight:

Below is another look at a few recent domain flips and flops, with data courtesy of NameBio.

Flips

Convict.com sold for 10,000 USD recently via PlentyOfBrands, vs 4,250 USD on 2016-01-11 at NamesCon. The smartest folks in the industry were watching this NamesCon auction, yet Christian Calvin was still able to pick up this domain and flip it for over 2x in under two months. Gotta love this industry. Mr. Calvin was discussed previously for his profitable flip of Mortgage.info.

OneTwoThree.com sold for 3,750 USD recently at NameJet, vs 1,500 USD on 2015-04-22 at NameJet. A novel take on the numeric craze. Even with the numbers spelled out, the seller doubled their money in a year.

MYKY.com sold for 2,610 USD recently at NameJet, vs 651 USD on 2015-04-15 at NameJet. The first of three LLLL.com profitable flips listed this week, ranging from nearly 4x to 10x before commission.

LGFX.com sold for 2,501 USD recently at NameJet, vs 406 USD on 2015-05-21 at Flippa.

HNGM.com sold for 2,333 USD recently at 4.CN, vs 240 USD on 2013-02-03 at NameJet.

7XF.com sold for 1,710 USD recently at NameJet, vs 413 USD on 2014-07-21 at NameJet. Bidder “first” picked this one up, and added it to his pile of 46,000+ other domains.

Flops

Penitence.com sold for 1,600 USD recently at NameJet, vs 30,000 USD on 2008-03-25 at nicexpress. OUCH! Based on a look back at historical screenshots, a religion-related site was in the works at one time, but never made it to a full fledged site.

TheMessiah.com sold for 1,001 USD recently at NameJet, vs 1,377 USD on 2015-04-13 at NameJet. Speaking of religion….

RedCanvas.com sold for 571 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 4,488 USD on 2014-05-28 at GoDaddy.

DomainAnalytics.com sold for 551 USD recently at NameJet, vs 2,206 USD on 2006-01-31 at SnapNames. New owner is under privacy protection.

NewYorkCarLoans.com sold for 463 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 4,995 USD on 2013-04-17 at Sedo. Nice $4 CPC, but these 4-word domains don’t sell like they used to.

HealthyMenus.com sold for 785 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 2,100 USD on 2007-07-31 at Afternic. Previously forwarded to Take1Menu.com, and a screenshot is below. That site appears to have been shut down back around 2011.

Note: I didn’t do an exhaustive search of the ownership history of each domain. There are likely cases where there were multiple owners between the sales prices I list.

  1. This article is a great example of how quickly domains can fluctuate. What is hot today may not be as hot tomorrow and vice versa.

    1. It’s true, but you still have the choice to hold until the price is right for you. In time the value tends to grow. Not if you overpaid for a domain (that will be slower)
