Domain Spotlight:

Below is another look at a few recent domain flips and flops, with data courtesy of NameBio.

Flips

iWork.org sold for 2,250 USD recently at Flippa, vs 445 USD on 2015-08-27 at GoDaddy. 4x after commission in five months isn’t too shabby. Apple controls the .com for their iWork software suite; I sure wouldn’t want to build a brand around the term and compete with them.

iworkNeosino.com sold for 2,777 USD recently at Sedo, vs 144 USD on 2015-03-04 at DropCatch. Nearly 16x after commission, and I have no idea what the term means, but there is a health/beauty site on the .net, so perhaps it’s an upgrade.

EnglishProgram.com sold for 2,300 USD recently at NameJet, vs 302 USD on 2013-06-01 at NameJet. Surprised to see a descriptive domain increase in value so much over the past 2 1/2 years, on the same NameJet platform.

GraphicCards.com sold for 5,100 USD recently at Flippa, vs 2,297 USD on 2013-11-17 at Afternic.

LUUU.com sold for 2,601 USD recently at Flippa, vs 400 USD on 2007-12-07 at Afternic. Conflicting forces….Chinese investors don’t love vowels, but they do like repeating letters and patterns.

JWW.net sold for 4,900 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 551 USD on 2010-12-03 at NameJet. Andrew Rosener is bullish on these LLL.net domains.

Flops

TheKingdom.com sold for 3,850 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 11,610 USD on 2013-11-24 at Afternic. Based on a look at screenshots at Archive.org, the site was previously promoting “financial freedom”. This domain flop certainly wouldn’t help.

DermCare.com sold for 1,160 USD recently at NameJet, vs 3,388 USD on 2009-04-21 at Afternic.

AsbestosLawyer.net sold for 3,000 USD recently at Flippa, vs 12,500 USD on 2010-11-24 at Afternic. Speaking of conflicing forces above….this one has a $90 CPC, but it’s a .net.  ***UPDATE: Check the comments below, as it appears this was a profitable flip for the recent seller of the domain, after they picked it up at GD Auctions in 2013 for under $2k (I’ve seen the screenshot). This means an even bigger loss for the buyer of the domain back in 2010.***

TV.vc sold for 1,300 USD recently at Sedo, vs 2,000 USD on 2006-02-14 at Sedo.

45987.com sold for 1,111 USD recently at Sedo, vs 1,382 USD on 2015-12-13 at GoDaddy. Quick flip gone awry; less than a three month hold.

OutOfSite.com sold for 245 USD recently at NameJet, vs 2,500 USD on 2015-07-17 at BuyDomains. Is that site, or sight?

Obtaining.com sold for 1,200 USD recently at NameJet, vs 1,800 USD on 2015-06-23 at Flippa. Over a 40% loss after commission in less than a year’s hold. I was never a big fan of the -ing domains, although I picked up Transporting.com last year, but that is more commercial in nature than the keyword “obtaining”. BuyDomains is the new owner.

Note: I didn’t do an exhaustive search of the ownership history of each domain. There are likely cases where there were multiple owners between the sales prices I list.

  1. Hi Aaron,

    Keep up the awesome work!

Wanted to let you know that URLU recently sold AsbestosLawyer.net on Flippa for $3,000.
But we bought it for $1,747 in 2013 on Godaddy Auctions against many bidders, which never got reported.
The previous owner forgot to renew the domain and let it drop. I think this would be useful info to the Flop report above, which is actually a Flip for URLU.

    Best,
    Frans

    1. Frans, thanks for the comment and clarification you sent by email. The post has been updated to reflect the new information. Congrats to you on the profitable flip.
