Domain Spotlight:

Below is another look at a few recent domain flips and flops, with data courtesy of NameBio.

Flips

KRRR.com sold for 4,888 USD recently at Sedo, vs 201 USD on 2007-09-01 privately. The thinking back in 2007 = what the heck could a triple repeating letter be used for as an acronym? The thinking by buyers in 2015 = triple repeating letter……the best domain EVER!

.

34.biz sold for 2,222 USD on 2015-12-02 at Sedo, vs 405 USD on 2014-11-11 at GoDaddy. A 4? A .biz? No problem!

.

eJet.com sold for 40,000 USD recently at Sedo, vs 2,200 USD on 2012-03-10 at NameJet. The new owner is an individual in China, and the domain is parked. I expect (hope) a site will be coming soon at this acquisition price. The seller appears to have been domainer Garry Chernoff, and people on his holiday gift list should be in good shape when combining this sale with his recent sale of Drink.com for $500,000.

.

OQL.com sold for 29,088 USD recently at NameJet, vs 3,488 USD on 2013-06-11 at NameJet. Picked up by Andrea Sabatini of Hong Kong, who is very active in the LLL.com domains.

.

HMW.net sold for 4,800 USD recently at Sedo, vs 591 USD on 2010-12-03 at NameJet. Lots of LLL.net domains sold recently at Sedo in this same sort of price range, and it’s a dramatic price increase over the last 12 months.

.

JustTaxi.com sold for 6,800 USD recently at Flippa, vs 106 USD on 2015-02-01 at GoDaddy. My kind of flip…..over 60x in 10 months, before commissions. “My kind of flip”, as in the kind that I want….not the kind that I get….

.

Tonic.com sold for 80,000 USD recently at Sedo, vs 50,000 USD on 2011-01-29 at Sedo. The new owner is under privacy protection, and no site resolves. Assuming 15% commissions, the owner made around 35% ($18,000) in a roughly 5 year hold.

Flops

NursingClothes.com sold for 595 USD recently at NameJet, vs 2,500 USD on 2008-10-14 at Afternic. As discussed, the keyword domains aren’t as in demand as in the minisite days a few years back.

.

AnimatedFilms.com sold for 1,898 USD recently at Flippa, vs 2,500 USD on 2007-02-28 at BuyDomains.

.

RCGF.com sold for 1,500 USD recently at Sedo, vs 2,200 USD on 2011-01-12 at Sedo. While the profitable flips greatly outnumber the flops for LLLL.com domains, it is still possible to lose money if you don’t buy right.

.

XVB.net sold for 1,009 USD recently at NameJet, vs 4,688 USD on 2009-08-26 at Afternic. Same as above.

.

40L.com sold for 829 USD recently at NameJet, vs 1,800 USD on 2015-10-30 at Sedo. A quick flip gone awry. Bidder “first” got a good deal on this one; the other standard CCC.com bidders were asleep at the switch.
