Domain Spotlight:

Below is another look at a few recent domain flips and flops, with data courtesy of NameBio.

Flips

ToplessNews.com sold for 2,195 USD recently at Sedo, vs 107 USD on 2015-05-04 at GoDaddy. Nice 20x return in less than a year, before commission. “Topless” is more of a picture thing than a news thing. The domain currently forwards to Striplandia.com, and based on their logo below, you can probably guess what’s at the site.

striplandia

REYI.com sold for 18,500 USD recently at NameJet, vs 7,610 USD on 2012-06-22 at NameJet. Picked up by an individual in China and the domain is parked. I assume a site is in the works for this price.

NELN.com sold for 1,311 USD recently at NameJet, vs 275 USD on 2012-01-26 at NameJet.

39Q.com sold for 3,900 USD recently at Sedo, vs 1,106 USD on 2008-04-14 at Sedo. CCC.com continue to pick up steam. This one is now owned by a Chinese investor.

MegaWarehouse.com sold for 3,400 USD recently at BuyDomains, vs 292 USD on 2015-07-12 at NameJet. Great return in under six months. I’m guessing an end user picked this up, but WHOIS still shows BuyDomains as the owner.

DRT.net sold for 3,800 USD recently at NameJet, vs 1,115 USD on 2013-05-08 at NameJet. Really nice letters, and I actually would have expected a higher price, as all the LLL.net with a “Z” seem to be going for the $3,000-$3,5000 range at NameJet.

Flops

Clothing.net sold for 10,817 USD recently at Sedo, vs 40,000 USD on 2010-12-08 at Sedo. Ouch….loss of over $30k. The domain shows as in transfer at Sedo. Currently forwards to the developed ClothesCheap.com.

WaterMedia.com sold for 3,000 USD recently at Sedo, vs 3,000 USD on 2014-10-08 at Sedo. Break even? Not exactly……gotta back out those commissions.

VOIPSoftware.com sold for 1,500 USD recently at NameJet, vs 3,888 USD on 2005-05-04 at Afternic.

SAOK.com sold for 790 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 3,500 USD on 2014-03-26 at GoDaddy.

BDSD.com sold for 2,500 USD recently at NameJet, vs 3,399 USD on 2016-01-02 at NameJet. That’s quite a loss in a month. Aren’t these supposed to go up 10% a week forever?

Note: I didn’t do an exhaustive search of the ownership history of each domain. There are likely cases where there were multiple owners between the sales prices I list.

  1. Something wrong with your theme on my iphone. Very narrow and your banners not displaying entire width.
    Good read TY

  2. MegaWarehouse.com Was a smart more. I saw some “Mega” domains expiring and they didn’t go very high in price. They make a great investment. Buy, hold and sell when the right buyer comes along. It would be hard to lose money on them if you buy for the right price.

      1. I see a lot of the Chinese electronics seller opening warehouses across the Europe. I think it would make a good brand.

Also looking through namebio sales the “mega” prefix sells pretty well. Of course the end user should be always in mind.
