1. I have a few that i have on privacy. I have a few domains i would like to build out and they are about very serious issues. I dont want potential users to be taken back to a portfolio of some questionable names i have. Adult, weed, silly, rude, etc. I am not sure they would understand that i buy domains as an investment and all of mine are not near and dear to my thoughts or heart. Just better off seperating the 2 if possible.

2. That fits my “to hide” category. There is nothing wrong with exactly what you are saying. We all want to hide new buys that we are not ready for the world to know about. Or projects that we are working on. Hiding is not all bad.

3. It will be interesting to see what GDPR does to WHOIS over the next half year. The worst possible solutions could torpedo those inbound inquiries.

4. I have every name under privacy. For a few reasons:
   First I started doing this to protect from trademark dilution or starting a registration or expensive tm battle. I own the keyword .com which a few large established firms would like to own, and another 100 or so two-word names to stop others from encrouching and building a brand on the mark. Much easier to get a TM recognised when there are not as many players using the word. Whois privacy is stealthy keeping things under wraps a little better.

   As for the names for sale, I’m still contactable with whois privacy as the email is forwarded to me anyway. I have a light folio of about 200 names mostly built up over the last 3 years, maybe dropped 100+ over that time. I park them at Uniregistry market and get about 1 enquiry /day average. Only been contacted a few times directly via whois data, even still I forward that to a Uniregistry broker and let them do the work. Happy to pay the commission. I hate paying the bank currency exchange fees way more.

   Basically, I value anonymity. I understand some of us want to get our name out there and cover every base to sell a domain where that opportunity might otherwise be lost had a phone # or something something not been available for a buyer to get in touch. I still feel a serious buyer who’s not a total moron is going to type in the domain, see the lander and take it from there.

   Then there are a few risks having true whois data public. That wackjob who goes balistic when the price doesn’t meet their expectations. I don’t need them visiting or sending me a package. Second, domaintools, domainIQ, etc hoovering up whois data and building an eternally available database. Third, being sued/udrp. Laws change all the time, and who’s laws or rules apply to what who knows anymore. I’m not gonna make it easy for anyone to try their luck to steal my domain property.

   I value the principle of privacy and protecting data derived from a person, and I feel there’s something fundamental about the human condition that needs this assurance. I do think more deeply about these things so I’m an exception by far esp with respect to other domainers. And as much as I dislike the EU dictatorship I look forward to the GDPR taking effect even if it makes the domain research more challenging.

5. QBEE.com sold for $3,380, like the domain but this price is so high for an investor imo.

6. I don’t want the whole world to know which domains I own (yes, they can obtain that information using DomainTools and other services if I don’t use privacy).

   If names are listed at venues such as Sedo, potential buyers can see how long I have been a seller and thereby be assured that I am legitimate.

8. I don’t hide that I am in this business. Otherwise I would not participate at the forums and sites like this. I just don’t feel there is any advantage to letting people know my exact portfolio.

   In any case, it is not possible for me to hide it completely, since about half of my portfolio consists of .in, which does not allow for privacy…
