I received an email the other day that made my day. Not because he was kind in his words about me, but because he gave real life examples of names he had purchased at auction and then turned around and flipped at another auction. It was great to see that there is still tens of thousands of dollars to be made flipping names in today’s market. Buy and hold is the preferred method to making money in our industry but bills have to be paid. You can’t always sit around and wait until you get offers on your domains. It reminded me I need to get back to looking for auctions that may have resale value. Congrats on the great job P. Your hard work is paying off.
On a side note I listened to an interview with Lance Armstrong where he said he invented a game called Fireball. Where he would dip tennis balls in gasoline, light them on fire, and then throw them at each other. But he didn’t. I invented it 🙂 I’m 3 years older than him and we used to do the exact same thing and play tennis and soccer with them. One of the stupider things I did but we did it. (Sorry Mom, I know you read this but I lived and I have retired from the sport). I did a lot of stupid things as a kid but nice to know that I share the love of spinning our blood to achieve gains in endurance sports and the dangerous game of fireball.

I remember one of the older Sherpa Reviews where you guys mused about never selling the domain for under the price of at least one “item” or “service” (I think the discussion was about cryogenic freezing .. lol). It’s kinda indirectly good advice .. not for the actual specific number .. but more as a reminder that different industries have different economic realities. There are some that would never pay $5000 even for the very best domain .. while others could pay $20,000 without batting an eyelid.

The reason I bring it up … there’s an extremely low value domain on auction today for you:

While I doubt you’ll ever sell a geo org for more than $100 .. there’s a good chance you could trade it for a couple Acupuncture sessions .. if there’s a national chain you could maybe even see if you could get Josh a session or two to fix his snoring .. lol
Stylex.com already sold for $2200 yesterday.
As for auctions .. I really wish there was a good option for portfolio auctions. Flippa could certainly make creating them easier .. as well as giving them a category of their own to get more targeting interest. I’ve packaged a few together in the past and am not even sure if I would have been better off just holding the auction at NamePros.

That being said .. what sucks for sellers at Flippa for sellers .. is a big plus for buyers … because if less competing domains see these portfolio auctions in question .. that means they’ll usually go way under value. Coincidentally I have a Portfolio of 40 Domains ending later today but only a handful of bids so far .. although I guess most of the activity is usually last minute .. I’ll let you know how it goes tomorrow .. lol.

PS .. Accept my bit for Coins.cc .. I feel like I need the domain simply from all the references on Domain Sherpa alone. Wasn’t that the one you tried to sell to Drew thinking it was actually coin.cc (no “S”)? lol .. Probably the thing I miss most from Sherpa is all the fun side-stories (Fat Matt .. lol). Glad it’ll be returning sooner than later! 🙂
