The other day I wrote an article about Richard Dynas selling Hatred.com for $150,000. The responses were exactly what I expected. “Great job”, “Congratulations”, “Congratulations” with a “I have this domain that is similar”. But the response from Kevin Murphy of DomainIncite was the most surprising. On Twitter he wrote “Give this domainer a big hand for ripping off Milo Yiannopoulos to the tune of $138,000” It’s the ripping off part I don’t get. A guy that writes articles about domain investing for a living, says that someone who sold a domain at a good profit is ripping someone off. That the person buying the domain is being stupid. In a sense saying, while no all purchases are bad, he has the ability to tell when a purchase was a bad or good buy. I think he is wrong. I think the buyer has free will and chooses what he wants to spend on the domain. If the seller agrees to that price and everyone is happy there is no such thing as ripping people off. I can’t speak for everyone but I certainly feel uncomfortable having someone who writes and represents our industry telling the world via twitter that you’ve paid too much for a domain. It’s bad for the industry, its bad for business. And it is business. Milo is controversial but he is an incredible marketer and that’s what he bought it for. Kevin is a great writer. But I will take Milo’s marketing skills over Kevin’s domain investing skills any day. Have a good Sunday Here are today’s names. Click for most recent price

Thats a great argument, it’s subjective and down to ones individual thoughts and feelings…. when i sell domains i getaccused of ripping people off but thats the nature of the beast, either they buy it or they dont that simple.
I think its more about the seller saying he had it for sale at 12k and raised the price because Milo is a celebrity. I think saying that out loud was not the smartest thing to do on the sellers part. That buyer WILL feel ripped off.
Yeah. That is the first time someone has raised the price because they had a bigger bankroll on the other side.
Doing it is one thing. Saying it when the buyer can read it is another. Not smart. The least that would happen is that buyer will never buy from you again. Why does the seller feel the need to say “I was willing to sell at 12k”? You made a good sale good for you no fault there, but adding that part does not help one bit, no upside to that statement.
I’m actually thinking you may both be right here.
