The lack of whois in the future is going to be a bitch. Tracking down the owners of names is going to be a very valuable art that is going to reward the people with the tools and information. Everyone else is going to take a big hit in their acquisitions. We’re pretty much going to be relegated to domains at auction, have some kind of website presence that gives you a way to contact them, or a whois history that hasn’t changed from the past few years. The rest are going to disappear from acquisition possibilities. Those that will be just fine are people like Andrew Rosener where people call him. He doesn’t have to hunt down anyone. They find him. He merely choses which domains he thinks are worth owning.
It also makes it more important than ever to make sure your domains all have landing pages that let people contact you. It doesn’t have to be for sale. Some times not having it say for sale appeals to some people. Either way they have to have a way to make an offer. You forget to change the DNS and no more looking you up to see if the domain is for sale.
Speaking of for sale. Namejet is reauctioning a lot of the names from the NamesCon auction earlier this year. They reduced the reserves and are going to try and move some names. Some fantastic names like HormoneTherapy.com Acting.com, GolfLessons.com, and Cork.com. Some of the names still have really high reserves but I think many have been lowered to a price that is going to get them sold. Take a look after you peruse my incredible list today

Any idea when this new whois policy is being put into effect?
Everything is still kinda fuzzy on how and when exactly WhoIs will be changed .. but the European law (GDRP) on which the changes are needed for comes into effect May 25th. I’d make my usual long opinionated post on it .. but I’m late for work … so Google it! lol 😉
