Domain Shane’s Daily List of Domains at Auction for Wednesday April 11th, 2018

Escrow.com

You hear it all the time.  “Live like you’re dying”.  “Live every day to the fullest” “Take time to smell the roses”.  But if you want to really believe all the quotes and statements on Twitter go talk to a dying man.  My grandfather is dying.  He’s 94 and has had one of the most remarkable lives a man can live.   He is fearless and brave.  Handsome and smart.  Never gave a shit about what anyone else thought because he took self responsibility and lived by his actions.  His name was on his words, and his results were of his decisions.   He’s flown around the world, piloted boats to world record speeds, hand built a reverse osmosis water filtration system cause he could, and took back his plants from the Chicago mafia when they held them for ransom.  But he’s 94 years old and his body is failing him. Some times his mind gets a little confused but for the most part its still there.  It’s brutal.  I am struggling with it and have had trouble visiting him in his last days because it crushes me.  He says it straight up with tears in his eyes that he is not ready to die.  It’s not that he has things to do.  He’s done amazing things.  He just wants to be here the next day so he can live, talk, smile, call family. Nothing special, just his normal routine.  All the things we take for granted on a daily basis.  Did I mention it’s brutal?  I think about it all the time. He keeps telling us how much he wants to stay around and I lose it just thinking about it.  It makes me want to quit doing anything in my life I don’t enjoy.   In my mind I think that I would be so happy to make it to 94 and then I see someone who made it and you realize its not about how long you live. You can live a good life but if you have the good fortune of your mind holding out , you always will always be looking for another day.

So I’m not being cliche when I say live your life the way you want to live it.  Thank those that make it better.  Tell those that make it worse to fuck off.   Smile when you’re happy and try and make someone else’s day better along the way.   Realistically nobody is going to remember the things you accomplished but they will remember who you were and how you effected their life.  Don’t wrestle with the pigs that will point out every problem around you. Hang with the people that guide you to the sunshine.   Share your journey in hopes that you’ll be part of someone else’s.  If you disagree with any of this I have a 94 year old man that hopes and prays that he can talk to you and change your mind tomorrow. Here are today’s names.    Click on them for current price

  1. Man, what a powerful post today Shane. I’ll be praying for your grandfather. I think you make so many good points that we often take for granted in our day to day trek. We often lose sight of what’s really important, and get caught up in so many unimportant things.

  2. He sounds like a great guy and fantastic role model. Thanks for sharing Shane. I bet he has no regrets and that is really all we can hope for.

    1. I’m sure he has some as we all do. Not sure about the role model thing either. He was either loved or not liked very much. Not much in between. Typical for a man that was always comfortable with his actions regardless of what they were

  3. I hear ya.
Right after my wife died I read Your money or your life and Tony Robbins’ unshakable.
Steven Hawking said, his disease could have killed him any day of his life so he tried to make every minute count. The minute part hit home with me, not just days.
I know it’s hard walking into the room to see your grandfather, do it anyway. Cheers…

    1. Tim,

Your wife’s passing and my best friend’s wife passing happened during the same month. The two changed a lot. I have spent more time with family ever since. I went to visit
my Grandfather a few month ago and we talked. For four hours he told stories. One of the best days we ever spent together. Looking for more of those days with other people in my life

  4. Sorry to hear about that, sounds like a real Patriarch. You have to remember that at least you had a Grandfather, many of us are not that lucky to have known one.

  5. Very powerful words- I am reminded of a quote a coworker had in her office which was “A Life Well Lived is the Most Exquisite Work of Art” which always resonated with me. It sure sounds like your Grandfather has lived a fine life- treasure the time with him.

    Mike

  6. Shane, I’m sure your grandfather isn’t ready to go yet. My mother died at the age of 92 in my house. She said to me just two days before dying that she wished she could live a little bit longer. We all seem to need “a little bit more time”. I hope you can put his need for companionship ahead of your hurt. Sometimes, the last moments in life are treasured the most.

    1. thank you Tom S, Mike S, Vito, Dale, Tim, and Josh. But nobody needs to feel sorry for anyone. We all have our days. Just reminding people they aren’t limitless. Don’t treat them as such.

  7. Hey Shane .. sorry to hear about your grandfather approaching end of life. My grandfather passed last year at 93 and he had some stories to tell as well. I think the difference was he had his ups and downs over the last dozen years or so .. so had kinda come to accept his end was more sooner than later .. I think it made a difference as his health diminished. But luckily he was happy until the end .. he fed himself breakfast and was gone peacefully before lunch when the nurse came to check in on him. I don’t think the age matters .. but I definitely understand how you feel about his feeling of not being ready .. that kinda sucks. 🙁
    .
My grandfather lived across the country in Vancouver so I didn’t see him often near the end .. but whenever I did I always wanted to hear more of his stories of his ups and downs in life (he was in WW2 and started his own construction company that rose and fell with the economy). I think it was just as nice for him as it was for me knowing that someone appreciated and could learn from the way he lived his life.
    .
Not much more to say about this sort of situation .. it sucks .. and the only thing you can do to make it any better for him is just to spend time with him if that’s possible, and let him know that he will be remembered in a positive light, that he affected your life in a positive way, that you appreciate him for exactly who he was .. and horrible as this seems to actually say .. try to share some laughs and good moments with him if you can.
    .
Anyhow .. wishing you, your grandfather and the rest of your family nothing but best wishes in these difficult times.
