I have always invested in things I know.  Things I see.  Things I use.  It has made me hundreds of thousands of dollars over the years.  But I have gotten burned lately by things that appeared as one thing but were really another.  Let’s take my recent Nike trade.   I have always collected shoes.  Over the last year Nike shoes began to start selling out in minutes.  New releases are so hot that they are double the price on StockX the next day.  It wasn’t just a couple, it was pretty much most of the sneakers. And all on their own site so they keep all the money.  Clothing was the same.  They were often sold out of clothing too.   Stock X showed the resale market for Nike over taking Addidas for the first time in a while since Adidas became the hot shoe.  I bought Nike options hoping they would crush earning.

Not only did they not crush them, they admitted they greatly reduced quantities to make the shoes appear scarce.  They could have sold tons more but they wanted to create buzz.  Everything I saw was fake.  Cool if you are a shoe collector, bad if you hoping their stock goes up.  The numbers were ridiculously low with guidance for next year just as bad.  China sales were great so the stock hasn’t actually changed much but it reminded me that much of what you see in a company on the outside isn’t what is happening on the inside.  I need to do more homework when I put my money in.  Crypto returns got me feeling invincible and while that can really rack up the returns, it can also make you lose money quickly.

It is true in our domain investing world.  I got burned on .WS because half the ownership team told me great stories of what would be happening and the push ahead.  Turns out the other half of the ownership wanted nothing to do with it and the push didn’t turn out to be the marketing program but pushing out the owner I worked with out the door.  Lessoned learned.   Check the entire ship before you go sailing.  Here are today’s names at auction today.  Click for current price

WYWA.com  The LLLL.com with three good letters and ends in A have been doing great lately.  I was out of IHSA.com at $1500 yesterday and it went even higher

TreeBitcoin.com  Seriously, some of these names are completely stupid.   I get that coin names are getting purchased by end users more than ever but it still doesn’t make this name any less awful

GameCrypto.com   This one is much better.  No doubt crypto will be used in game in time

ThirdRoad.com   No bidders. 1998 birthday.  Third road is a charm

PinkStore.com     Feminine sounding name although not just girls wear pink

Dataline.com  Very nice brand.  smooth clean data name.

GXCC.com  Like C at the end?  Get two.  1999 domain

SelfDefenseTraining.com   A bit long but that’s exactly what it is

66.ws   As a NN.ws owner (from the .ws purchase mentioned in opening) I am curious how this will do

JollyBee.com  The name of a geranium that I sell but a nice brand by itself
