Domain Shane’s List of Domains at Auction for Wednesday, January 27th

Escrow.com

First of all, I think they’re wrong.  We are all tired of the attention grabbing headlines about the Chinese domains falling.  And the sentence always ends with a question mark.  They are guessing.  This market started in 2010. Yes it is SIX YEARS OLD.  And now its going to falter because it get white hot it October, 4 months ago?  Things moved fast, and the may very well fall back but they simply don’t have a clue. They didn’t go to the big private Chinese Domain Investor conference.  Talk to people that did, I have.  They will tell you that a lot of this money is buy and hold money.  Money that was made in other industries and put in to this market.  Not some small guy that is putting his life savings.  So don’t listen to people that have no clue.  Even the old school guys that are calling for a fall are out of their area of expertise. This is a new market.  There are new power players.  The old school guys are merely lucky they have some of the assets the new players want.  The enduser market is a bonus.  Now we have TWO ways to make money.  One and two word dot coms, and short names. Do your due diligence, proceed with caution. But you should always be doing that.  The warning signs won’t be coming from a sponsored post with a headline to scare you. It will be coming from charts and data. Charts and data that show long term decline. Not a day, a week, or even a month.  It will show quarters and a year of declines.

I’ve said it a million times, there are a lot of people that missed their chance to make a lot of money and it makes them feel better to tell you that it is going to crash.  They are going to yell it until it happens, if it ever happens.  The fringes will settle, we just don’t know what fringe domains are.  So far the fringe has been swallowed up and become expensive domains. That has to end eventually. But there may be much more money than we think yet to come.  We will see and the whole time you will continue to say “X happened, does this mean that Chinese Domain will Fall?”   Here are today’s domains. Click to see current prices.

  1. Bang on with your opening statements. The daily scare mongering trying to connect Chinese stock markets and conspiracy theories to what’s going on in the domain industry is getting tiresome. The data shows demand is still strong, though it will be hard to repeat the gains of 2015.

  2. Thank you Shane. I’m going to say the name. (edit) is annoying as hell with the repetitive clickbait headlines with no subtantive data other than links related to the stock market or the (edit) post from two days ago saying the same thing.

They do sometimes post helpful information, but the combination of Chinese Armageddon sensationalism and unfunny parody makes me want to ignore the blog all together.

    1. Rod,

There are others that do the same thing. It is great to point out the other side. It actually needs to be done so people don’t think this is all rainbows and unicorns. This still is a business and things could still fall hard. But the call has been made and doesn’t need to be made every week. And it certainly needs to have data and reasoning.

    2. Rod and Andrew,

It wasn’t a direct attack on any one blog but just a statement across the board. Sure it may have been inspired by a recent post but all my rants are. I took out the actual blog you guys mentioned just to be nice. Everyone works hard on their blog, regardless if it appeals to everyone or anyone at all 🙂

  3. I do not read (edited) for the same reason, why is it even on Domaining? It’s not good for the industry, not funny and has to be confusing for anyone entering this realm.

(All links from Domaining.com today go to Uniregistry???)

  4. You are spot on once again Shane, short numerics and 2/3/4 letter dot coms have been going into Chinese hands for a while now, not just last year. If it were all about about to crash you wouldn’t see so many domain related companies moving into the Chinese market.
Instead of embracing this amazing time, there are a handful of sadists that cant wait for it to end and sadly Acro has been the cheerleader on that. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, I just wished he wouldnt keep banging on about it day in day out.

  5. Well said Shane, I couldn’t agree more. I’d say the #1 question people asked me at NamesCon is if the Chinese Domain Market was crashing, my response was, “Crashing? These are still the early days I actually think it’s still just getting started!” That being said, I have no problem with other Domainers not bidding on Chinese premiums so I can buy them at lower prices, so sure, the market’s crashing 🙂

    1. Thanks Morgan,

I agree, its good to not have everyone on board. It needs to move slower than it did but its done and now things will have to settle. An sideward movement scares people just as much as a fall. I wish Ron Jackson would ask me to be one of his “experts” some day. I’ll have to wait another 7 years I guess.

  6. Yep Doom and gloom again. Most of these professionals “aka” mutual fund managers actually think they know where everything is headed in the market. That just tells me they’re buying.

They don’t want the competition. The next articles they will publish is around the first few weeks of Feb this being around Chinese New Year. They will say market has dropped and buying has stopped. But most don’t even know or fail to check when the Chinese new year happens, kinda important to the culture.

Great buy on Botany.com btw. That will get you 200-300 typn-ins a month @ minimum. Secret method:)

  7. Shane, I was wondering when you were going to bring some light to the dark cloud. Predicting the doomsday clock is not the path to success. You will be right once but you will cost yourself a lot of money waiting for that one time.
    Cheers

  8. In ten years, when you see a short .com (2-4L 2-5N), you will automatically think it is a Chinese site. The Chinese are building their own short internet and they are leaving everything long for the rest of the world.

  9. The domain market is not crashing, THE ECONOMY IS CRASHING!! Get liquid because there will be huge opportunities in every market. I have been watching bitcoin, litecoin and dash. The banking industry is being reinvented and most of the old dead wood in that industry will be BLOWN away. Making billions charging people to access their own money will end. Take responsibility for your own money and store it on a trezor or ledger wallet.

As for domains drop the crap and keep short relevant keywords and letter/number combo’s. The World is mobile and anything with more than 6 digits on either side of the dot is useless. imho.
