DSAD.com Domain Shane’s Big List of Domains at Auction for Thursday, January 7th

Escrow.com

There is a reason why Namejet is the best auction house. They listen to their users.  They are always improving the system.  It gets better every year.  The result is more bidders, higher prices, and record number of sales.  Then there is Flippa. It’s a good auction house.  Their improvements are made from a group of owners sitting around a table.  I said it in a comment last night.  They (and Kevin Fink) have built the only auction platform that doesn’t get fed expiring names. That is amazing all by itself. But the frustrations of a few things actually costs them bidders.

Two quick examples,  proxy bids. If a name is at $40 and I put in a bid at $700, then the new bid is $50 and it works up as people bid it up. Right now its put in at $700.  Now Fixed.  Actually it was always fixed.  I made an error.  If you are bidding under the reserve it automatically takes your bid up to max since it doesn’t really matter since you haven’t met reserve.  Once it HAS made reserve it is a true proxy bid.  I guess I had never bid over reserve :).    Two, an HOUR extension at the end of the auction?  Sure, I don’t need sleep, I’ll stay up 10 hours while the auction keeps getting extended.  That’s a start if you want me to bid.  I got plenty more for later.     Here are today’s names. Click for current prices.  Buy some please

  1. The one hour extension enables seller to get the most out of their properties as it prevents sniping. The best the buyer can do is to place his maximum bid and forget the auction, at least for sometime.

    1. Frank,

Of course you have to extend the auction. This isn’t 1997, sniping is done. Extend the auction for 5 or 10 minutes and give the bidders time to up their bid. Of course you can eliminate 90% of it by allowing me to play a nice proxy bid. These rules hurt the buyer and sellers don’t get jack if the buyers aren’t happy. You need both sides to be happy with the process to succeed long term. In order to get the best price for the seller you have to give the buyer the best and easiest way to place more bids.

      1. I don’t follow on the proxy bidding thing. Flippa does use a proxy bidding process.

Are you referring to bidding when the reserve hasn’t been met? If that is the case, then the max bid should go in as long as it is under or at the reserve price. That is one of the most frustrating things about the GoDaddy proxy bidding process. They don’t put your max bid in if it is under the reserve.

  2. Shane Dog, Keep up the good work. Its the first page i look at when i get to work. sweet names today thanks for the heads up as always.

  3. Runing is a funny one it will get a couple hundred type-ins a month tops, but cpc will be pretty low on runing. So @4k is a bit high but if a China buyer just wants to make a few hundred in parking per year then it would be good. But I would not except to get 500 or 1000 type in’s a month.

Once stock China market goes down even further like last night domains are going to be looking even better. It will work opposite of the doom and gloom everyone is writing about.
