DSAD.com: Domain Shane’s Daily List of Domains at Auction for Tuesday, April 19th

Escrow.com

I’ve stated this a few times before but here’s a couple things to remember when putting a name up for auction.  One, people like to bid on names that have a lot of bids.  Do what you can to get them.  Starting the bidding low is one way.  On Flippa you start the bid at $5 and don’t accept any bids for a few days which allows everyone to put in a $5 to start.   Make sure to point your domain to your auction. Every lead helps and you may get a bid or two to it.   And of course promote your names somewhere 🙂  I know these are basic rules but I am surprised how many people don’t follow them.  It doesn’t always give you a better price but it certainly helps.  Here are today’s names. 1. Cloud names are of course tricky because the primary commercial value outside of cutesy branding is related to online services like SAAS. So as tempting as cloudwhite.com is, do you risk confusion with the transposed name trademarks? In this case whitecloud.com and virtually every other cloud variation has a TM “cloud” hanging over it for online services.

Upon reflection, one could posit that the reason why cloud’s situation is different from most other generics is because its rise from broad, commercially uninteresting status to strong value was so quick, within a year or two. There were always branding opportunities possible, but these days cloud has matured into a pretty singular meaning within modern parlance. So it seems reasonable to state that the number of enduser-sale opportunities (and much higher profit potential) for online services certainly swamp out those of generic branding now.

A pro like Berryhill could certainly make all sorts of arguments to keep a name like this safe within the usage of online services. But of course the bigger question as a domainer is will a potential TM overhang like that affect flipping profit potential to a savvy enduser? Guess that’s what makes the game of domaining tough (and fun!), it’s a minefield out there.

P.S. – Is it really so wrong that I had another hot and nasty dream about Shane last night? My psychiatrist said that it’s unhealthy. He’s wrong.
