I didn’t find out until mid game but I’m hoping that my acknowledgment late summer makes me some money. Heck, come to think of it, my purchases in mid October are paying off. That’s really all I’m buying right now. Its a heavy investment but I feel thats where the best returns will be. This is a rarity market right now so I might as well go the best patterns I can find. Shane – you deserve a ton of credit for being way ahead on the numerics – and China – trend(s), so a big congrats to you! And even though I (unfortunately) haven’t participated at all – simply because I don’t understand this niche -, I’d agree with you that this has a long way to run, i.e., the trend is your friend.
But my only question as a TM lawyer is the obvious one: The ultimate use for domain names is to serve as an online brand and destination. And while it’s easy to see how a brand or franchise could be built on something like “945.com,” does anyone really believe that ‘someone’ can create franchise value on their “743289.com” site?
Again, because I don’t understand the numeric-buyer’s mindset I’d love to hear your take on this. Thanks.

I don’t think a brand SHOULD be built on 6 numbers or more. We all have no problem remembering phone numbers and have for decades but IMO words are easier once you get to 6 numbers. My opinion only. But four numbers is very memorable and to me, makes a fantastic brand. The numerics are merely collectibles. A currency that has value because people are buying and selling it. The US dollar is nothing more than a belief that something will back it. Chinese believe in the domain markets. They believe the prices can and will be determined by supply and demand and have faith in it. That’s good enough

Short appears to be sweet for mobile and I am collecting as many short names as possible. I just picked up the easiest name I have ever typed for around $100??? 11a.cc ???I would have liked 11.cc but who is complaining??? Oh, guess what 11.cc goes to Guta!!! George confirmed earlier this year that .cc makes sense. We thought that all along and the price to play is peanuts compared to short .com’s and renewals are about the same. 😉
While .com is killing it without vowels I think some “v”‘s and pronounceable 4L and 5L’s with vowels will work for many that want names that are short and easy to type AND pronounceable.
As for easy to remember 6n.com’s , they would work for people’s websites, contact sites, etc. 6n’s are about the same length as a phone number so easy to remember combos should hold value well. imho 🙂

Back in 2012, I bought zzznn [com] on a whim (BIN) — I liked (and still like) the way it looks on the page, and I played around with a logo for it (not too successful).
I couldn’t figure out why it was getting decent traffic.
These past few months, it became clear 🙂
In hindsight, I wish I would have bought more of these 5L repeaters.
