I’m doing another domain experiment with hand registered Crypto type names. Everyone is welcome to follow along, give input, criticism good or bad. The goal of the exercise is learn from each other and see if we can pin down different strategies for selling domains.
All the 335 domains below were hand registered 2 days ago for a rounded up total of $3K. I’ve added all the names registered didn’t leave any out, some or all might be crap, but that doesn’t matter because our goal is to make more than $3K and we have 1 year to do it. As of yet none of the domains have been priced or added to sales platforms.

If you read this blog on a regular basis, you know that I generally price my names with a reasonable BIN on the major sales platforms but leave the landing page as an open inquiry.
There are no rules here, we can try different things and different prices, for any or all the names. We can try wholesaling the names, preferably towards the end of their domain life cycle.
Also we can make a contest as to how much money this list will make. We’ll give the winner some kind of prize, maybe a Namescon ticket or free DSAD listings. Just comment with your prediction, for example, $0, $100, $10000, one billion dollars.
So again, I’d like to make this a learning project for everyone both with following any progress and giving input. I’ll write about it even if we lose money, sometimes that’s better learning than making money.

I will assume a sell-through rate of the typical 1-2% on the 335. That means you will sell about 5. There will be one outlier going for a lot more than the rest which I say is $2000. The rest go for $500. I predict $4,000. I know you will beat that number but at the same time I don’t think crypto names stay hot for another 12 months. I don’t even know if cryptocurrency itself will have any steam left by then.

Curious about your thoughts on crypto names or crypto. If you don’t mind sharing, let us know why you think they’ll lose steam. It’s good to get a balanced view, I only think they’ll sell because they have been in the recent months, but I can only speculate on what the future holds.
I’m uncertain about crypto. I was never a believer and ,rationally, agree with Buffett and the CEO’s that have said it is worthless. First saw bitcoin in May 2013 when it was $70 and was too chicken and lazy to get in as it was a hassle back then to buy. FOMO led me to finally get in last December. Got into altcoins like NULS and QTUM b/c they aspire to be China’s Ethereum. Quadrupled my money in four weeks so I pulled out and use profits to buy Schnauzer.com and Podiatrist.com. Got back in when btc was $9K and bought some Vechain at $4 a month ago. Market is just now going up again. I put in enough so that if this crypto party lasts another 12 months, I will have some life changing profits and if it all implodes, not too big a deal except some disappointment. I’m just keeping my hopes in check and maybe that’s why I think it will lose steam by then. Also, 12 months in crypto is like 10 years in real time. Would like to add that if the US gov’t does step in and regulate, it will add legitimacy to the space and I wouldn’t be surprised if the party was extended by 5 years and $20 trillion in market cap.

Rafael, I have some blockchain names, haven’t sold any, but I have sold a ton of coin and crypto names. I actually don’t like them as much since they’re already 2 syllables and 10 characters on their own, I don’t think the majority will be used for brands, but I could be wrong.

Where do you sell most of your names? By listing them only (For sale page, Afternic, etc.) with no promotion at all (blog mentions, auctions, etc.)
How many on a platform vs the For Sale page direct?
Have most of them been hand regs?
I’ve talked about this many times. I list the vast majority of them with BIN prices on the Platforms that accept BIN prices, Afternic, SEDO, Godaddy Premium, though I really need to update SEDO. I haven’t listed anything on there in months, mainly because I’ve been lazy, but also because it has the lowest success rate. Most of my names have a generic Uniregistry landing page, that is not priced, giving me the potential to sell the name for more than the impulse, registration path BIN sale.

Blog mentions? That seems like a lot of wasted time. I’m not looking to sell any name to anyone reading a domain blog post. Unless they’re at the end of their registration, at which point I might try and auction them before they drop or renew.

All the ones listed her are hand reg’d, but the majority of the ones I sell are picked up from the drop. I do sell hand reg’d names, but they’re like 1% of my names. The rest are the expired auction and dropped names.
