IKE’S LIST OF DOMAINS AT AUCTION FOR Saturday , May 6th

Escrow.com

I received a contact form submission from a new domainer named  Chris, he had some questions about BIN listings so I thought I’d answer him here. I also  can’t figure out what his email is, either I haven’t slept enough or the contact form isn’t working right.

Chris wanted to know if I list  domains with BIN prices on all the auction platforms. What I usually do, is list BIN prices on Afternic and SEDO, though I am way behind on adding names to SEDO.  SEDO doesn’t have a fast transfer agreement with Godaddy, and since the  bulk of my names have always been at Godaddy Sedo has kinda taken a backseat as far as my listing priority.  My intention is to change this and bring them up to speed.

I think some people might fear that the name will sell at both places at the same time. I think this is highly unlikely and if it does happen you would simply explain to one of the platforms what happened and cancel the sale. It’s not like they’ll flog you or anything, they’ll understand. If the name is at a registrar like enom, where they have fast transfer for both platforms, the first place the name sells will make the fast transfer status inactive on the other platform. Usually anytime there’s a whois change the fast transfer will be removed.

I don’t always put the same BIN price on different platforms. It’s surprising how many times a name will sell that is listed for a lower price somewhere else. The general buyer has no idea where to look, and if they do find the lower price there’s a chance they’ll think they’re getting a deal, maybe a time sensitive deal and pull the trigger.

So what I generally do is list the name with a BIN price anywhere that the potential buyer is searching for a name, like on a sales platform or in the registration path. On my landing pages I typically don’t have a BIN price. I may be losing some sales, but my reasoning is that  someone who directly navigates to a domain with the possible intention of purchasing said name already had that specific name or concept in mind. The buyer is more likely to negotiate and is less dissuaded my a make offer format.

This happens all the time, I’ll sell a name through a landing page inquiry at uniregisty for more than the name was listed  on the auction platforms. The buyer isn’t browsing names, so while it may be likely that an impulse purchase can still take place there’s a chance to sell the name for more than is listed elsewhere.

Just the other day I sold a 6L brandable name for $2500 through the Uni brokers, and the name was listed at Godaddy and Afternic for $599. When the $1k offer came in, I changed the BIN prices in both places. The broker was able to negotiate the price to the final sales price.

Chris also asked about the BIN names that I list. They aren’t my names, just random listings of name I think might have value at the listed price.

If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details.*All names chosen by us, Shane and Josh . (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything we say is based on our own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or our opinion is correct. We hand choose the names but we are paid to make this list by both the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links.
