I wrote the short post in 2010 and forgot to post it so I am going to do it now. I didn’t see much value in “Future Trends” at the time and now we can look back and see what you all think of the names now that the future is a little closer. My opinion hasn’t changed one bit. The opportunity cost of having money in these domains would have costs people a lot of money. There were endless other types of domains to put your money into and as long as they were dot com I think you would have fared better. I say would have because I don’t think any of the names actually sold. And they wouldn’t sell now. If I am going to buy a future trend I am going to be VERY ahead of the trend and get a hand reg and then pay reg fee until the trend comes. Here is my article and the names below
Snapnames is having an interesting auction called “Future Trends” starting on the 24th. I’ll start off by saying I appreciate Snapnames and Moniker and they do a great job of providing liquidity to the domain market. I also think I generally get trends. I love the risk rewards often offered by front running trends but I just don’t see value for the names in this auction. I’m not going to say there aren’t any solid names here. I think Solar Siding is certainly a future trend. Investing $50-100K on it? Not for me.
This is certainly how you make money. Investing in things that nobody else sees the value.

Wow what a weird list of names, any of us could probably hand reg many similar names but I really don’t see much value in this group except for maybe 2 of them.
Now if they had some 3d printing names with products that would be good. I see 3d printing names that offer services or particular products doing very well in the next 5 years.
