I was doing a little math on the 7% rise every year for the next 10 years on domain names. This also compounds. So in 10 years wholesale will be $20 on your domains. In 5 years it will be $14. It’s not a huge amount. If you have 1000 names its an extra $4K but if you have that many names, if you’re within $4K of breaking even you have bigger issues. Obviously at 10K names it becomes a much bigger issue and my guess is the result will simply be a lot of dropping domains. I think the expired domains sections will be much larger with more bad names than ever. Yet the reality is if the registration cost wasn’t up it would probably be in someone’s portfolio. The key metric will be growth of total names registered. We know its going up. It will always go up. But will the growth rate in dot com continue. My guess is in 4 years, you will see it really take a dive as the price starts to creep up to a price that truly effects decision making. I don’t think it gets there for a few more years
