Listed below are updates on the top 10 domain sales from a year ago, as ranked by DN Journal.
1. Furniture.co.uk sold for $650,000
This was picked up by the folks behind BedroomFurniture.co.uk, which is where Furniture.co.uk is currently redirected. Per DN Journal’s post last year, when discussing buyer Graham Haynes, “Haynes had good reason to buy Furniture.co.uk. A few years ago he acquired BedroomFurniture.co.uk for $57,500 and built a furniture sales business on it that is now generating $7 million a year in sales.”
2. Broker.com sold for $375,000
The domain is parked, and currently owned by Brent Oxley, who founded HostGator and sold it to Endurance International Group back in 2012. Elliot Silver previously wrote about him buying Give.com for $500,000, although that domain is now under privacy protection. Andrew Allemann had a fun post about visiting Brent Oxley’s 18,000 acre ranch in Texas earlier this year….a ranch with tanks and giraffes. Per Whois, he owns other domains such as Help.com, Realty.com MEZ.com, UIX.com, and more.
3. Present.com sold for $90,600
The simple lander below is live. It’s owned by an individual in the UK that owns other domains such as Holla.com and Costy.com.
4. Maggie.com sold for $48,100
The domain is parked and under privacy protection, and has a BIN price of $75,999 at Afternic. Per HowManyOfMe.com, there are just under 83,000 people in the United States with the first name Maggie, which, according to the methodology in this excellent post from Michael Sumner, would make the domain a decent buy.
5. Sandy.com sold for $46,100
The domain still redirects to a NameJet page, which is where the domain sold last year, and it’s under privacy protection. Per HowManyOfMe.com, there are just over 100,000 people in the US with the first name Sandy, although there are obviously other uses for the word as well.
6. BZN.com sold for $38,600
7. OQQ.com sold for $26,000
Neither LLL.com above is developed, and both are owned by Chinese investors.
8. Liposuccion.com sold for $16,500
A Spanish-language site is live, and it appears to be just an informational site. It has no Alexa rank, so it’s likely getting little traffic.
9. Laha.com sold for $15,000
The domain is parked and under privacy protection.
9. Bam.tech sold for $15,000
Interesting to see a new gTLD as the traffic leader for the week, with its Alexa rank near 550,000. The company changed domains from BamLab.fr to Bam.tech. Based in Paris, they describe themselves as, “We believe in shaping the future of mobile. We do multiplatform development, using lean&agile methodology. We use and contribute to React Native, Cordova, Ionic”.
The furniture domain just gave me an inspiration that I can also register ccTLD for my own country. Other domains sold are cool names.
Furniture.co.uk was like a lottery win to the seller, it’s a crazy price to pay for a domain imho especially .co.uk domains where you can pick three letters for xxx and other generics for x,xxx.
Stu, I agree with you that it was a crazy high price relative to other .co.uk domains….per NameBio, this is only 1 of 2 .co.uk sales since 2013 in the 6-figures.
However, where it wasn’t like a lottery ticket, is that the seller of the domain had to have the guts to hold out for $650k. Personally, I would have sold it for much less, so kudos to the seller.
