It’s been a good month at Afternic. I sold 3 domains yesterday, and I have 2 more sitting there waiting for the Icann 60 days to expire so I can transfer them to the Afternic buyer.
My account manager tells me that we did great last year and improved our sales significantly from the previous year. He says that we’ll double sales this year, :). Well it’s a public challenge now Aaron Johnson, let’s not disappoint the readers.
I did increase by domaining activity over the last year. The previous couple of years I was more apathetic, not really doing much expansion. But while I’ve increased my reg fee portfolio by a significant amount, I do think that having “inside” help is more significant.
I’m unorganized by nature, so most of the time I just send a list of new domains to Aaron and say ” add these put whatever price you want”. We can also kick different ideas around, think of new strategies to implement, and overall it helps keep me on track.
I’ve been busy at work and haven’t sent anything to Aaron in a few weeks. He contacted the other day under the pretense of a basic “hi, how’s it going”, but I imagine he really wanted to make sure that I was still alive as I had been sending him new domains to add almost everyday.
The only request I’ve made of him that hasn’t had a positive response as of yet, was my request for Godaddy t-shirts and merch, maybe even a fishing Jersey. 🙂 . I think the domain industry under utilizes some basic marketing strategies. I have a few BrandBucket t-shirts that are super comfortable, but even better than how amazing they feel, they’re good conversation starters that sometimes let me tell people about domains and the domain industry in general.
They do need to be comfortable and look good or people won’t wear them. I still have a few Uniregistry shirts from Namescon’s past. I don’t really wear them, 1- they’re v neck and 2-they fit weird. Look what happened to them… Spent money on less than ideal t-shirts and a few years later Godaddy owns them, just sayin.
