I’ve spent a lot of time with family over the holidays, which means lots of time with friends, family, and friends of family. Over the past couple of weekends, I’ve learned two things:
- Active minds stay sharp. Older folks (80+) who keep their brains engaged with reading and learning are on another level compared to those who just coast through the day watching TV. It’s a huge difference—you can see it in the way they talk, write, and hold deep conversations. After chatting with dozens of older people, it’s clear: staying mentally and physically active really is a “use it or lose it” situation.
- Airbnb without good Internet is a disaster. We had a 20 MB connection last week, and it was barely functional. Two people couldn’t work at the same time, and even streaming YouTube TV or Netflix was a nightmare. We had to switch to our phones just to get stuff done. If you run an Airbnb, the number one priority has to be strong Internet. I can deal with a missing spoon or one towel, but bad Wi-Fi? Nope. It’s why we skip hotels—they don’t have the space for two people on private Zooms, and their Internet is often throttled (plus its expensive to bring Frank!).
