Shane’s List of Domains at Auction for Friday, July 10th, 2026

I’m in the middle of a negotiation on an AI domain. I bought it a year or two ago for a few thousand dollars, and it was a solid buy. The offer started in the $25K range, but the kicker was that they wanted a 5-year payment plan. That’s a no-go for me.

First, that’s an old tactic to get the monthly payment down so they can use the domain and default early. Second, I have no idea what things will look like in 5 years. I don’t have the patience for green bananas, and I’m definitely not waiting 5 years to get paid.

But I decided to play. If they want 5 years, then I need a big deposit. That takes away their incentive to default. I also raised the price to $60K. I gave them a week and said that at the end of the week, the offer would no longer stand.

They didn’t reply, and a week passed. Then they came back and said they would put down $5K and pay $50K over 5 years. I told them it’s now $10K down and $70K over a maximum of 5 years. I explained that I thought about the payments and don’t really want a 5-year deal, but if I have to do it, that’s what it would take. I know deadlines are also worthless. But I put a little worth on it to open up a larger middle.

We’ll see what they come back with. Most people would jump at that kind of money given that the return on investment is there right out of the gate. However, I know the default rates for plans over 3 years, and they aren’t great—much higher than short-term plans. So while it sounds like a good payback, you probably aren’t going to see most of it, and $5K is not a big enough deterrent to stop a default. To me, $10K makes it worth the risk.

It also sets up a middle ground. They have to give up something to close it. I think we will get it done, but I figured I’d show my process.
