Domain Spotlight:

Scott Pruitt and Jonathan Tenenbaum were nice enough to invite me to be on Domain Masters Radio this week.  It was hard to get in a lot of details to all the questions in the short amount of time we had so if you have any questions that I didn’t cover or you want more detail then feel free to shoot me a comment or an email.    I enjoyed it so much I’m thinking about doing a weekly domain video chat.

  1. Good interview, Shane. I very much agree with what you said about knowing the market and looking at it from an angle different from others so as to explore opportunities. Thanks.

  2. Hi Shane – Thanks for being so open, you’re always great to listen to. Your DomainSherpa interview earlier this year (http://www.domainsherpa.com/shane-cultra-domainshane-interview/) was terrific in case any of your readers missed it..
I’m interested to know your thoughts on how you identify the next waves of liquid domain types.
In the podcast you briefly mentioned 5 number .coms and 4 number .nets as potential up and comers. What method and threshold do you use to decide on the likely types of in-demand names?

    1. Richard,

I look for prices that creep up over time. Because I am following the auctions daily I can see that certain types of domains are starting to get bids, then after time they start hitting $100 and eventually rise from there. It’s never overnight but gradually. The auction results give plenty of information. The private market usually is higher value names but I talk to enough people that deal in the higher end names that I get good feedback about inquiries. How certain types of names are getting more inquires than usual. You can also tell because brokers will ask if you can send over a list of a certain type of name. All this info leads to my valuation
