People publicly asked yesterday why bloggers aren’t posting articles about Adam Dicker and I can tell you right here why. The reason? NOT ONE SINGLE PERSON EMAILED ME THAT THEY WERE HAVING TROUBLE WITH ADAM. I get 20 to 30 emails a day from readers. People ask me every day to help them make public someone they think wronged them. But not once in my 6 years of blogging has anyone mentioned Adam in an email. Yet now all these people are coming out saying he cheated them. I am not saying he didn’t. I have no idea. But why didn’t anyone come out and say anything prior to today? I figured its like the Bill Cosby thing (not that raping women is even remotely close to these accusations) It took one person to break the ice. Maybe Shane Bellone is the great savior. If he is, I know it took a stolen conversation between Adam Dicker and Michael Cyger to be one.
Yet I know I am not going to write the expose because until this point I had never had anyone express concern. There was nothing to write. I defended Kevin Fink because I knew the accusations against him were wrong. I can’t defend anyone here because I only know what I know. That Adam is always kind to me. When someone asked about me he always has something nice to say. I have no idea of how much he made or how many people think owe him money. My opinion is Adam probably over promised and under delivered both financially and verbally. He was what we call in accounts receivable a “slow pay” Friends say he was slow paying for domains. Yesterday was the first timeI found that some have classified him as a “no pay” or a “no pay back” And there is one post from LannyB that to me shows this is going to get ugly for Adam. I hope its not all true but there are too many people coming to the surface for it all to be made up. But again, it’s bad for the industry all around. Nobody is going to win here. If the post from LannyB is true than there are some high powered people in the domain industry that should be ashamed of themselves.
This is a mother of two small kids that was basically lured into a scheme to work for free!
Don’t you “domainers” understand that, if this is true, you are keeping a guy in business who is preying off innocent newcomers?
Domain blogs/media/community pumped Mr. Dicker up to be a domain guru that was trustworthy. Undeniable fact. Yet this same community has never written an article or blogged about being careful who you trust in this industry as many shady characters lurk around.
“The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don’t do anything about it” – Albert Einstein
Shane, I want to commend you for keeping us informed on what is going on in the industry. I don’t have time to read many blogs these days, but your blog certainly provides the good, the bad and the ugly.
Just because someone has always been nice to you does not make them a nice/good person. I’m sure we all know that already. I personally found Dicker to be smug, arrogant and sometimes hypocritical in his appearances on the Sherpas shows. Living in Philly, I am used to pudgy, arrogant guys who think they know it all – first with Andy Reid and now with Chip Kelly. But, being a cocky prick is one thing and being a deadbeat/fraudulent businessman is in a whole other league. I’m hoping for all involved, that this gets resolved to their satisfaction.
Michael Cyger asked Adam Dicker to quit the DomainSherpa show? If true, wow.
Several months ago a well-respected domainer who has been around for many years claimed he had paid Adam to develop a site and the job was never completed, despite many promises over many months. Eventually Adam began ignoring the domainer altogether, until he was challenged publicly on FaceBook about it, after which the post was removed.
