Below is another look at a few recent domain flips and flops, with data courtesy of NameBio.

Flips

CloudCommerce.com sold for 20,000 USD on 2015-10-04 in a private sale, vs 10,000 USD on 2013-11-03 at Afternic. A site is live already, and the domain was needed as part of a rebranding from their prior name, “Warp 9”. They’re an OTC traded company, and according to Yahoo Finance, they have a market cap of about $2.4 million.

“We previously announced our strategy to acquire profitable companies in the growing online commerce industry,” stated Andrew Van Noy, CEO of the company. “We believe our new name better reflects our new plan and will help us integrate a number of strategic subsidiaries under the CloudCommerce brand.”

cloud commerce

68670.com sold for 1,525 USD on 2015-10-03 at NameJet, vs 187 USD on 2014-08-25 at GoDaddy. 8x before commissions in 14 months.

26021.com sold for 812 USD on 2015-10-05 at NameJet, vs 310 USD on 2015-05-08 at NameJet.

XAJ.net sold for 1,129 USD on 2015-10-07 at NameJet, vs 360 USD on 2015-03-19 at NameJet.

InternetAccess.com sold for 32,700 USD on 2015-10-07 at NameJet, vs 16,100 USD on 2013-04-15 at NameJet. Surprising to see this significant of a price increase in two years when (a) internet access isn’t a new thing, and (b) descriptive domains like this haven’t seen the same level of price increases in the past 24 months as some of the shorter domains that China loves.

LaundryBasket.com sold for 3,950 USD on 2015-10-07 at NameJet, vs 2,544 USD on 2013-08-08 at NameJet.

Fertilize.com sold for 3,622 USD on 2015-10-06 at NameJet, vs 2,088 USD on 2011-08-31 at Afternic.

OnlineAssistant.com sold for 5,400 USD on 2015-10-06 at NameJet, vs 2,082 USD on 2015-02-26 at NameJet. A 250% increase in price in 8 months, on the same NameJet platform, is kind of rare for anything other than the shorter domains (LLL, CCC, numerics).

Flops

BillCollection.com sold for 1,000 USD on 2015-10-07 at NameJet, vs 1,801 USD on 2015-03-22 at NameJet. Quick flip gone awry — less than a 5 month hold, and a 50% loss after commissions.

SkillDown.com sold for 2,552 USD on 2015-10-03 at GoDaddy, vs 4,500 USD on 2014-10-03 at GoDaddy.

FullRights.com sold for 415 USD on 2015-10-01 at GoDaddy, vs 3,388 USD on 2012-09-09 at Afternic.

iAdvantages.com sold for 182 USD on 2015-10-07 at GoDaddy, vs 2,500 USD on 2007-07-10 at Afternic.

Fertilizing.com sold for 825 USD on 2015-10-06 at NameJet, vs 999 USD on 2015-04-03 at NameJet. A flop, compared to the profitable flip for Fertilize.com above.

Note: I didn’t do an exhaustive search of the ownership history of each domain. There are likely cases where there were multiple owners between the sales prices I list.
