Below is another look at a few recent domain flips and flops, with data courtesy of NameBio.
Flips
PersianRugs.com sold for 60,000 USD recently in a private transaction, vs 28,204 USD on 2014-01-15 at NameJet. It appears this was sold by a Boston-based rug dealer which had a developed site on the domain, to a New York-based rug dealer with a company named Nazmiyal. The seller’s site is live while I type this, and a screenshot of the buyer’s site is below. “Here at the Nazmiyal gallery in NYC, we have a passion for antique rugs. For over three decades, we have scoured the globe for the most stunning and evocative carpets.”
XSXX.com sold for 7,755 USD recently at NameJet, vs 4,100 USD on 2013-03-27 at Sedo.
IBCM.com sold for 3,750 USD recently at NameJet, vs 2,550 USD on 2016-02-03 at Sedo.
SEOForums.com sold for 1,300 USD recently at NameJet, vs 360 USD on 2016-07-20 at NameJet. A quick 3x in about two months, when buying and selling on the same platform.
Doberman.net sold for 2,751 USD recently at Flippa, vs 255 USD on 2016-08-15 at NameJet. Nice quick flip….a hold of less than two months, and a return of nearly 10x after commission. The domain was picked up by the company residing at DobermanTechnologies.com. “Doberman specializes in acting as a Third Party IT Management Firm; that means that Doberman functions as a fully outsourced IT department for your organization.”
Flops
KissCash.com sold for 181 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 4,800 USD on 2012-05-09 at Afternic. Over a 95% loss.
WeeklyTimes.com sold for 898 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 2,250 USD on 2013-08-05 at Afternic.
YourShield.com sold for 610 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 3,388 USD on 2011-08-10 at Afternic.
BenchmarkSolutions.com sold for 687 USD recently at NameJet, vs 4,500 USD on 2011-01-15 at Sedo. Based on a look at screenshots from 2011 – 2013, this was a New York based company which must not have succeeded. Their old site said they provided “Transparency Solutions for Fixed Income and Derivatives”.
Note: I didn’t do an exhaustive search of the ownership history of each domain. There are likely cases where there were multiple owners between the sales prices I list.
