One of the best business experiences was being an investor in the startup Wallstrip 9 years ago. You can read what Wallstrip was but basically it was a talented girl and a producer go to Wallstreet and make good entertaining content each day. It was bought out by CBS for $5 million very quickly. The leader of the team was Howard Lindzon but he had a very solid investment team behind the company. Fred Wilson, Roger Ehrenberg, and other very bright people. Just being on the email list and watching how a startup was being built and managed, was worth every penny I invested (it was just short of $10K) I didn’t have a lot of extra money back then but I was willing to put up the money just to be part of those great people. Having them address me by name made me giddy. I wrote a few of the segments and even a song. The fact that it actually got bought out was gravy. I couldn’t believe I was one for one in my startup investments. I was given the opportunity to roll the money into more startups but I stupidly didn’t because I had other plans for the money. Hard telling if what I spent it on did better than the next startup. But I can tell you what I spent some of the money on…domains. A bunch of bad domains. Here are today’s names.
