Domain Spotlight:

Below is another look at a few recent domain flips and flops, with data courtesy of NameBio.

Flips

9.am sold for 169,000 USD recently at RegNest.com, vs 18,000 USD on 2016-06-15 at RegNest.com. Wowza, a $150k gain before any commission…..a 9x return. The .am extension is for Armenia, of course. New owner under privacy, and no site resolves.

MyIV.com sold for 10,746 USD recently at Sedo, vs 175 USD on 2010-01-24 at GoDaddy. Excellent 60x return after commission. New owner under privacy, and no site resolves.

VR6.com sold for 8,988 USD recently at NameJet, vs 332 USD on 2010-07-05 at NameJet. 27x return after commission. If I call the ‘average’ non-CHIP LLN.com value at around $1,000, the virtual reality abbreviation increased the price by 9x.

Versions.io sold for 2,000 USD recently at Park.io, vs 104 USD on 2016-03-27 at Park.io. These .io domains continue to be hot.

BoxOffice.net sold for 8,100 USD recently at Flippa, vs 655 USD on 2017-03-07 at Sedo. Excellent 12x return in less than a month. Great to see an end user picking up the domain….this one forwards to the developed BoxOffice.co.uk, and a screenshot is below. “Box Office Tickets provide a secure online booking system for theatre tickets and theatre breaks to top west end musicals, plays, opera and ballet.”

Flops

WomensDresses.com sold for 2,377 USD recently at NameJet, vs 5,077 USD on 2014-02-19 at Sedo. These product domain values have dropped significantly since the minisite days.

BuyMyBook.com sold for 306 USD recently at NameJet, vs 10,000 USD on 2013-09-25 at MostWantedDomains. It’s never wise to buy a domain from Mike Berkens, and then need to sell it again on a domainer platform.

MedicalDoctor.net sold for 710 USD recently at NameJet, vs 7,881 USD on 2011-02-02 at Sedo. Someone lost a lot of money here. I believe I saw this one on Media Options’ current NameJet auction, and I’m guessing Andrew Rosener wasn’t the one on losing end.

Note: I didn’t do an exhaustive search of the ownership history of each domain. There are likely cases where there were multiple owners between the sales prices I list.
