I had my fantasy football draft yesterday. It’s my 32nd year in a row in a fantasy football league. Our first year in 1986 they had an NFL strike and we missed part of the season while scabs played some games. All stats were taken from the USA today stats and there was no such thing as live stats. And lineups had to be called in. Used to drive my Mom crazy with the phone ringing all morning Sunday. Calling in lineups and then everyone calling to find out who their opponent started.
The running joke in my league is I draft Natrone Means. He actually only had one year over 100o yards but he was a big lovable, hit the line hard, running back. So I make a place for him on my team each year. I even started him about 5 years ago. This year I had to honorably draft him and not really put him on the roster because I need every spot I can. I’ve won the league 3 of the last 8 years but as we all know that much of wining fantasy football is luck. Timely good games and having your guys stay healthy. That and having the person you play against have a bad day. Fantasy is good for keeping interest up in the games but I guess everyone knows that because half the US seems to play fantasy. I like the first 5 rounds of the draft but the second half is where the good team is made. I just get tired of waiting for all the people who don’t know much about football says “Who?” “Who does he play for?” and me saying “He was drafted in the 2nd round” as they try and draft that player in the 12th round.
