Brandbucket shared some recent data about their sales in February that I thought was interesting. Here what they shared
Average sale price if you exclude sales over $10k is $2521
50 sellers sold names. Of the 50, 36 had one sale in the month, 14 had 2 or more
Of the Keyword names that sold (60% of sales were Keyword)
66% Two Word
20% Suffix + Prefix
8% Misspellings
4% Single Word
2% Portmanteau (have no idea what this means without looking it up)
I think this tells more about the platform than anything. Two word dot coms are more likely to be in the price range they are looking for
Invented Names (40% of names were Invented)
66% 8 Letter
20% 7 Letter
8% 6 Letter
4% 5 Letter
2% 4 Letter
I think this is very informative. My 5 letter names aren’t as desired as the longer names. 4 letters are generally accepted by Brandbucket unless they are pronounceable so I knew that would be skewed down. In short, I was surprised how few names sold. I never really looked into the data at BB because I have no domains there. I sent a group but their selection was so random that I decided to go a different route. Josh has had some good success at BB and was one of the people that sold multiple names so it can be a good supplement to what you are already doing. The question is the high commission worth the extra eyeballs that you receive. What do all of you think? Here are today’s names. Make sure to click on the names to see the current price and to help DSAD keep on keeping on.
PS: My friend Michael Cyger is doing a marathon today. Make sure to follow his or my twitter to follow along.

I think domainers are going to move away from BB over time to newer marketplaces. There are alternatives out there such as Brandpa, Namerific, and a few other newer ones I’ve seen pop up lately.
One of my friends who is also a designer just created his own brandable platform where users can sell their names and it’s nicer looking than BrandBuckets and much more domainer friendly. You can white label your site and not have the middle man 25-30% fees.
Tim, I agree. I don’t think things are very good at BrandBucket at the moment and won’t get any better. 2019 has been extremely quiet so far, submission reviews take ages, staff are leaving, and the information level is unsatisfactory.
Do you mind sharing who your designer friend is?
