Domain Shane’s Daily List of Domains at Auction for Thursday May 9th, 2019

Escrow.com

I’m a billboard expert.  I can tell someone if their billboard will be a success or fail in 5 minutes of seeing it.  Most fail.  Primarily because they forget the purpose, the location, and the audience.   They try and cram everything they can think of into the board.  Even worse, they forgot to use a memorable domain.  Even if its not their main domain they can get one that is super memorable and then forward it back to their site.

One thing that caught me off guard in NY was the use of phone numbers that actually worked.  1-800-888-8888 was a number a lawyer was using.   That telephone number is worth the same as a high end domain name.  Back in the day the telephone numbers WERE the domain names of their times and it was a big business.  Generally domains have taken over but there are a few numbers that still have the same memorability of a domain name when it comes to getting someone to contact you.  I saw several of them on my trip and realized that a business that gets leads via phone like injury and accident lawyers, a memorable phone number is still an important part of marketing when it comes to billboards.   Of course if you can’t secure it you can still use something like CallTheHammer.com  or  GetYourMoney.com   and then show them your phone number.

Overall, when its all said and done its about presenting the consumer something they can recall and contact you to find out more about your products or services.  Pretty simple  Here are today’s names. Make sure to click on the names to see the current price and to help DSAD keep on keeping on

  1. This is SO SPOT ON. Billboards tend to be so jammed with crap that the brain can’t process it all in the split second that you have to grab attention.

So many people are doing it wrong. And I completely agree a memorable domain name is going to be easier to remember than some random string of numbers.

I feel bandit signs (signs on the side of the road typically used by cash homebuyers and similar businesses) fall into this trap also. they use phone numbers when a good domain name would be way better to use.

    GoWithJoe.com
    JustCallBill.com
(not my names btw, just examples)

both of those are way easier to remember than
    Call 482-384-2896

Not sure what struck me so much to post, but I wish more people selling billboards would help sell their product better.

  2. Dear Domain Lovers,

We are not going to bid any GoDaddy auction from now on, so you can get domains cheaper!!!

  3. I wish there were no billboard ads at all – true in only 4 states I think…
