Domain Shane’s Daily List of Domains at Auction for Wednesday June 5th, 2019

Escrow.com

I may be out of touch with the market.  I can’t even come within $1000 of guessing a final auction price of ordinary domains at this price.  Honestly, I can’t come within $4000 on some or 500% off.  The prices some of the names are going for at auction makes the retail price needed WAY above where I think need to be to sell it in the next few years.  You would think I’ve said this for years but I haven’t.  I always thought most names were deals compared to where they would be down the road.  We’re down the road.

Here are a few names Travis and I liked and were thinking about buying.  Take a look where they finished.   I do think there is some room on most of the names but MyTrack and WorldRealEstate hit a pretty high mark from where I thought it would be.  I figured half those numbers.  So instead of buying I decided to put a few names up for auction and take advantage of the demand.  Maybe then I can afford an ordinary name.

On a completely different side note I’ve started my marathon training for the Berlin Marathon in September. I turn 50 next month and I’d like to be 3:02/3:03 for the marathon which is solid for a big boned 50 year old.  I didn’t run much in May and worked on my diet and lost 15lbs in prep for training.  I’m hoping to drop the last 10 lbs over the summer and get down to 5% or so body fat all while trying to stay healthy and strong.  Its like walking a tightrope but so far I’ve been able to successfully drop weight for 10 years.   I walk around at 190 in the winter and try and normally run in the low 170s but I am feeling great and my diet is almost perfect so I think I can get to the 160s.  Perfect meaning I am getting the right amount of calories to sustain 15-20 miles of movement a day but everything that goes in is natural.  Tons of low fat meats, natural oils and fats like Avocado and fresh fruit and vegetables all day. Anything packaged is a treat but allow myself treats whenever I want them.    Another thing I am trying to do is breathe entirely through my nose.  Sounds silly but breathing through just my nose is hard.  I have to force myself to do it.  But I find if I do it through most of the day, when I go to mouth breathing, I feel like I’m getting a surge of oxygen.  I can’t do it when I run.  I feel like I’m being waterboarded if I try and do it on my run.

I did my first tempo run and was able to keep it at 6:45 pace (4:12 pace for you km people) for 7 miles.   By August I hope that is under 6:30 pace for 10 miles with rolling hills.   Last year I had trouble getting under 6:40 because I was doing my 20 mile runs a little harder than normal.   This year I am going to alternate weeks. One week I’ll put some pace to the long runs and the next week I’ll take it easy. That will allow me to crush my track workouts and tempo runs.

  1. I am interested in seeing who ends up with some of these way over wholesale names. I feel like these prices are outside of the budget of the average Joe domain investors. I am wondering if there is some market manipulation going on here.

I’ve stopped buying and watching godaddy expiring auctions because it’s become a waste of time(or money)

    1. +1. I’ve stopped bidding on most venues as well. I only backorder dropping domains and just buy what I win outright (no other backorders). I don’t backorder at NJ anymore to avoid being noticed.

  2. Everyone wanted the industry to mature. Here we go. Not only endusers have better understanding of domain value, the industry got flooded with deep-pocket investors.

  3. Yes, the demand is increasing at all levels, and prices are going up. I have noticed at GD this increase especially in the last few months. I am second place on about 90%. And I DO look to see who got them. Deep pockets, mostly. HugeDomains and many of us known players. And I look at who picks up my drops. Yep, HugeDomains.

I am already aware that I sell too cheap. But, higher costs and higher demand, for the good names must force prices up across the boards at retails.

    How was the boat???
