I sold a domain at sedo today. I always assumed the used automated emails, but I don’t think they do. I think some poor bastard is typing them by hand, because the email I got today had the wrong user name, and then in the middle of the email the wrong user name was spelled differently than in the greeting. My first thought was that I had let the domain drop, and the new owner never changed the whois.
Then I thought maybe the email was a scam… the email looked legit, but now that I think about it, I entered the auth code through the link in the email… sooo maybe I just gave the domain away to a phishing scam, who knows lol.
But the main concept that this email reinforced in my mind, is that sedo can’t be selling nearly the amount of domains that Afternic does if they’re typing every email. I’m still glad they’re there as an option, because a few sales will trickle in every now and then.

Have a name at auction and need more exposure? Send me an email. We Charge $10 per name per day. We may be able to help. If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details.*All names chosen by us, Shane and Josh . (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything we say is based on our own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or our opinion is correct. We hand choose the names but we are paid to make this list by both the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links. Keep that in mind and only buy names that YOU think are good
That sounds strange. I have always only received automated emails from Sedo, and never been asked to enter the auth. code using a link – only in the transfer area of the control panel.
Same here, always in my control panel. But I don’t ever set BIN on Sedo, so I haven’t experienced BIN sales.
