As we all know COVID has put a big hurt on so many businesses. Many were forced to close because they weren’t allowed to be open or didn’t feel they could provide a safe environment. As soon as they made COVID part of work Comp that meant that if someone got sick or died you have to pay for it and compensate the family. It doesn’t matter if they go to a private rave every weekend. If you have them work and they die of COVID your workmans compensation insurance will have to cover it or prove they shouldn’t. But that’s not the problem businesses are facing. It’s the government is paying too much in unemployment and employees are pissed they have to come back to work.
For instance, in Washington State regardless of your job you get $30 ($64K a year) an hour in unemployment under the COVID coverage. Great for most jobs but there are quite a few jobs that fall under that pay rate) But now employers have received a paycheck protection check and now can pay their employees with the caveat if they keep those employees or add more they don’t have to pay it back. So now they employees are taking a huge “cut’ in pay by coming back to work. They are calling the owners selfish for bringing them back before July 1st. And in some cases insisting they make the same rate as unemployment. An owner trying to keep their business open is now the bad guy. Because if the owner calls them back to work and they say no then the unemployment stops. It’s one of the craziest things I’ve seen. Plain and simple the government fucked up by giving people way more than they were making and now they expect it. But a nail salon just isn’t going to be able to pay $30 an hour to every employee. Unless you want to pay $80 to have your nails done. In a world where people love free and cheap delivery and services $30 for all or staying home will push some numbers
I haven’t had to worry about it because we haven’t had to close. But there are some businesses that are trying to open and they have a huge staff problem. The morale is terrible and nobody wants to be there. They don’t have real work and are only there because the government is paying the owner to keep them there. Essentially doing nothing. But they liked the doing nothing for double pay and watching Netflix. These are the unrealized problems ahead for the US. It’s going to be much more complicated than just opening back up.
As for domains. The high end domains may be hurting but damn are the $2K to $10K names doing well. As many inquiries as I’ve ever had. Online commerce to a HUGE step up here. Companies have realized they better do better and a good domain is a step towards better.

Have a name at auction and need more exposure? Send me an email. We Charge $10 per name per day. We may be able to help. If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details.*All names chosen by us, Shane and Josh . (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything we say is based on our own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or our opinion is correct. We hand choose the names but we are paid to make this list by both the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links. Keep that in mind and only buy names that YOU think are good.
