Below is another look at a few recent domain flips and flops, with data courtesy of NameBio.
Flips
4181.com sold for 29,999 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 1,201 USD on 2012-05-15 at NameJet. I don’t know if the market for numerics is still off its peak, but man, this is still a great 21x return after commission in a five year hold.
3510.com sold for 20,811 USD recently at NameJet, vs 3,600 USD on 2013-11-03 at Afternic. A 5x return after commission, in under four years.
PRRH.com sold for 1,366 USD recently at NameJet, vs 111 USD on 2013-05-09 at GoDaddy. I know the LLLL.com market is off its peak, but this is still a 10x return after commission.
Dealer.net sold for 9,600 USD recently at NameKart, vs 3,400 USD on 2017-01-23 at NamesCon. Nice quick flip on a name bought at NamesCon earlier this year.
PledgeOfAllegiance.com sold for 9,550 USD recently at Flippa, vs 4,494 USD on 2017-01-13 at GoDaddy. Another quick flip…..about a two month hold.
Flops
HandJob.com sold for 40,000 USD recently at NameJet, vs 90,000 USD on 2007-01-18 at Moniker. A huge $50k loss without considering any interim income they earned from the prior site. A rare flop for the hot career / job space, which has been hot. 🙂
Routes.com sold for 25,000 USD recently at Flippa, vs 50,000 USD on 2013-12-04 at Sedo.
DailyCart.com sold for 330 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 2,188 USD on 2011-04-06 at GoDaddy. Based on the screenshot below from 2012, it looks like they tried a daily deals-type site, but things must not have panned out.
Note: I didn’t do an exhaustive search of the ownership history of each domain. There are likely cases where there were multiple owners between the sales prices I list.

The days of cheap 4N’s are gone
Maybe we’ll look back in a couple years and say the current pricing of $20k is really cheap?
