I missed this post last week because I was out shuffling through a 50 mile run in the mountains outside Leadville. A quick picture is to the right, complete with a visor in honor of Shane.
Below is another look at a few recent domain flips and flops, with data courtesy of NameBio.
Flips
Circle.net sold for 5,000 USD recently at Sedo, vs 1,211 USD on 2016-01-14 at NameJet. Great return in 7 months on a .net. Picked up by the folks behind Circle.com, who are building a consumer finance company, and they just closed on another $60 million in financing last month. $5k domain acquisition? Drop in the bucket.
CatchTheWave.com sold for 3,988 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 786 USD on 2015-07-11 at GoDaddy. Excellent 4x return after commission in a year for a three word domain. Owner under privacy protection.
YPEE.com sold for 3,551 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 135 USD on 2014-07-11 at GoDaddy. A couple of the requisite LLLL.com domains, which as usual have acquisition dates of a year or more ago to ensure profitability.
DDCL.com sold for 1,500 USD recently at NameJet, vs 360 USD on 2015-05-01 at GoDaddy.
ConsultingAcademy.com sold for 2,000 USD recently at BuyDomains, vs 133 USD on 2016-02-09 at GoDaddy. Another nice quick return. The BuyDomains machine just keeps chugging along.
NFSports.com sold for 12,950 USD recently at Sedo, vs 168 USD on 2015-12-05 at GoDaddy. Heck of a sale! 65x after commission (assuming 15%) in 7 months. The buyer was RhinoCo Fitness, “The world’s fastest-growing functional fitness company, working to change lives through wellness“, with offices and gyms in New York and Miami. You can see their placeholder site below, and they describe the new site/company as follows, “Sports nutrition products and supplements designed for fitness enthusiasts who demand safe and natural ingredients.”
Flops
TheBall.com sold for 3,027 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 8,500 USD on 2006-10-24 at BuyDomains.
MNBW.com sold for 1,400 USD at NameJet, vs 2,050 USD on 2015-12-11 at Sedo.
TrueSolution.com sold for 715 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 4,500 USD on 2012-12-16 at Afternic.
TennisTutor.com sold for 666 USD recently at NameJet, vs 2,500 USD on 2014-05-14 at NameJet.
US.ski sold for 1,120 USD recently at Sedo, vs 1,072 USD on 2015-03-18 at Sedo. This one is notable to me because I haven’t seen alot of new G’s trading hands multiple times. This was a money loser after factoring in commissions.
Note: I didn’t do an exhaustive search of the ownership history of each domain. There are likely cases where there were multiple owners between the sales prices I list.
