Below is another look at a few recent domain flips and flops, with data courtesy of NameBio.
Flips
ForexAccount.com sold for 55,000 USD recently at NamesCon, vs 7,605 USD on 2016-09-29 at DropCatch. Heck of a return in four months. With the ROTD/NameJet/NamesCon commission of 25%, that would still put the profit over $30k for the seller.
During.com sold for 15,000 USD recently at Flippa, vs 1,634 USD on 2012-09-23 at NameJet. Great sale and flip if it closes…. nearly 8x after commission. This is one of those dictionary words that I’d have no idea how to use.
AdvertisingAgency.com sold for 65,000 USD recently at NamesCon, vs 33,000 USD on 2011-05-18 at MediaOptions.
SelfEmployed.net sold for 4,100 USD recently at NameJet, vs 421 USD on 2016-11-08 at GoDaddy. Another nice quicky……8x after commission in a couple months.
Flops
Travel.Agency sold for 3,000 USD recently at NamesCon, vs 9,999 USD on 2016-03-30 at Flippa. After commission that’s a 75%+ loss in under a year. Congrats to Ali Zandi who was able to previously sell the name for a buck under $10k.
Webbies.com sold for 918 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 7,588 USD on 2013-12-01 at Afternic. I thought of the Webby Awards, but I looked back at Archive.org and don’t see any development in recent years on Webbies.com.
TrackAndField.com sold for 6,500 USD recently at NamesCon, vs 57,000 USD on 2007-06-19 privately. A loss over $50k, 90%+.
Recognize.com sold for 17,000 USD recently at NamesCon, vs 15,005 USD on 2013-05-20 at GoDaddy. The seller lost a couple grand after commission. I was bidding on this name at the ROTD/NameJet auction and didn’t get the job done. Mr. Pollock was the high bidder, and I can say with a high degree of confidence that he won’t be selling the domain for a loss in the future.
Note: I didn’t do an exhaustive search of the ownership history of each domain. There are likely cases where there were multiple owners between the sales prices I list.
