Below is another look at a few recent domain flips and flops, with data courtesy of NameBio.
Flips
CAPS.org sold for 9,875 USD recently at Grit Brokerage, vs 1,550 USD on 2015-12-11 at NameJet. Appears to have been picked up by CAPS – the Centre for Asian Philanthropy and Society. An upgrade from AsiaCPS.org. “Incorporated at the end of 2013 in Hong Kong, the Centre for Asian Philanthropy and Society (CAPS) is a uniquely Asian Centre dedicated to facilitating excellence in philanthropy.” Excellent 6x return (before commission) for the seller in only three months.
Bitcoins.co sold for 6,500 USD recently at Flippa, vs 276 USD on 2013-05-13 at GoDaddy. I guess bitcoin domains aren’t dead after all.
VancouverCanada.com sold for 6,300 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 2,369 USD on 2014-03-15 at GoDaddy. Surprised to see this large of an increase in price in the past two years, given the leaning towards shorter domains.
Strengthen.com sold for 4,100 USD at NameJet, vs 1,251 USD on 2011-04-05 at Sedo.
YSD.net sold for 3,150 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 580 USD on 2010-12-02 at NameJet.
JLPM.com sold for 1,988 USD recently at NameJet, vs 100 USD on 2012-04-13 at GoDaddy. Yes, the seller would have received more two months ago for a 4L CHIP, but if you acquired your short domains a year or more ago, you should still be sitting pretty.
Flops
ClubProsperity.com sold for 1,894 USD recently at BuyDomains, vs 2,188 USD on 2009-11-11 at Afternic. Selling domains at a loss is no path to prosperity!
LinkFast.com sold for 1,280 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 2,288 USD on 2005-01-26 at Afternic.
iShift.com sold for 595 USD recently at NameJet, vs 4,444 USD on 2006-09-21 at Afternic.
EZT.org sold for 345 USD recently at NameJet, vs 489 USD on 2015-07-16 at NameJet.
ABR.net sold for 1,300 USD recently at Sedo, vs 1,675 USD on 2015-12-30 at GoDaddy. Not sure what this seller was doing —- a hold of less than three months, yet a loss of over 1/3 after commissions.
Note: I didn’t do an exhaustive search of the ownership history of each domain. There are likely cases where there were multiple owners between the sales prices I list.
