Below is another look at a few recent domain flips and flops, with recent data courtesy of DN Journal and historical data from NameBio.
Flips
- GoldDirectory.com – Sold recently for $2,360 at Sedo, vs $443 at the end of 2013 at GoDaddy. The current owner is Marc Dils of Belgium, per Whois, and he has quite a few other gold domains, such as GoldPiece.com, Goldz.com, GoldBid(s).com, GoldMines.com, and Gold.biz. No site resolves yet at his new acquisition.
- TTME.com – Sold recently for $2,000 at Sedo, vs $369 last year at NameJet. The domain forwards to TalkToMe.com, which is a site that’s not safe for work — “Nothing beats Phone Sex. Talk live, one-on-one with other amateurs.”
- MarijuanaPills.com – Sold recently for $3,745 at NameJet, vs $1,500 in 2013 at NameJet, vs $1,000 in 2012 via the same platform. That makes a couple profitable flips over the last few years. The domain is currently owned by Eddie Miller of Search Engine Marketing, LLC, per Whois, and is parked.
Flops
- InspireVideo.com – Sold recently for $2,100 at Sedo, vs $1,999 in 2013 at Sedo. Assuming 15% commissions, that’s a couple hundred dollar loss. The new owner is under privacy protection, and the site that’s currently live (screenshot below) was put up by the prior owner.
Note: I didn’t do an exhaustive search of the ownership history of each domain. There are likely cases where there were multiple owners between the sales prices I list.
