Domain Flips (PZV.com, iQuality.com) and Flops (eGreeting.com, 499.org)

Below is another look at a few recent domain flips and flops, with data courtesy of NameBio.

Flips

PVZ.com sold for 15,100 USD recently at NameJet, vs 3,999 USD on 2012-06-18 at NameJet. The domain’s value has dropped from a wholesale value of roughly $20k a year ago, yet it’s still a really profitable flip over a 4 ½ year hold.

FreshNutrition.com sold for 1,676 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 787 USD on 2015-12-17 at GoDaddy. I’m surprised to see nearly a double after commission, for a long-ish domain with a year hold, when it appears to have been sold to another domainer.

iQuality.com sold for 3,384 USD recently at Sedo, vs 1,310 USD on 2009-10-30 at NameJet. Not an awful return….2.2x in 7 years, after commission, but most domainers (myself included) aren’t in domaining for a double over 7 years.

Flops

DrumKits.com sold for 6,501 USD recently at Flippa, vs 7,502 USD on 2015-06-20 at SnapNames. We’ve seen lots of flops for product domains. This one was a loss of nearly $2k after commissions.

CrayHill.com sold for 2,398 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 3,000 USD on 2016-04-18 at Uniregistry. When Uniregistry is the seller in the historical transaction, if you see the name sell again, it will nearly always sell for a loss.

eGreeting.com sold for 2,750 USD recently at Flippa, vs 16,000 USD on 2004-09-14 at SnapNames. Heck of a long time between publicly listed sales, but I know there has been another transaction or two in this 12 year timeframe. I was the buyer, so I’m hoping to move it from the flops to the profitable flips category during my ownership.

499.org sold for 1,000 USD recently at NameJet, vs 1,208 USD on 2015-05-26 at NameJet. On this domain, I was the seller a year ago at $1,208 after picking it up for $300. Looks like the value has dropped in a year…after the commission, the seller lost nearly 30%.

Note: I didn’t do an exhaustive search of the ownership history of each domain. There are likely cases where there were multiple owners between the sales prices I list.

  1. I was the seller of egreeting.com during namescon 2016. Frank Shilling seemed to like the domain during domainsherpa live.
(I had bought the domain for $2k, held it for 3-4 months, and sold for $3k)

  2. Thanks Brock, I appreciate you sharing additional background info on eGreeting.com. (and congrats on that profitable flip)
