Below is another look at a few recent domain flips and flops, with data courtesy of NameBio.
Flips
Neoplan.com sold for 4,900 USD recently at Sedo, vs 1,105 USD on 2007-08-18 at SnapNames. This one was an upgrade from Neoplan-Bus.com for the bus manufacturer based in Germany.
WirelessMall.com sold for 3,000 USD recently at BuyDomains, vs 136 USD on 2015-04-28 at GoDaddy. The first of two excellent returns for BuyDomains with holds of less than two years.
Deskware.com sold for 2,000 USD recently at BuyDomains, vs 232 USD on 2016-02-05 at NameJet.
Sprinklers.org sold for 765 USD recently at Flippa, vs 170 USD on 2016-06-16 at NameJet. Nearly 4x return after commission….buying from one platform and selling on another in a 6 month hold.
Sighted.com sold for 6,500 USD recently at Flippa, vs 1,800 USD on 2015-07-23 at Flippa. Nice 3x return for the seller in a little over a year. The buyer appears to be rebranding their invoicing company from IntegrityInvoice to Sighted, and you can see a screenshot below. “Affordable and customized invoicing and expense tracking software for Freelancers and Solo Entrepreneurs.“
Flops
TouchLamps.com sold for 725 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 4,999 USD on 2014-04-30 at GoDaddy. A nearly 90% loss after commission. Product domains don’t have the appeal they used to back in the minisite craze.
CloudDisplays.com sold for 260 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 3,300 USD on 2014-04-02 at GoDaddy. Is ‘cloud’ no longer trendy, or did the seller just overpay a couple years ago?
ClipCam.com sold for 149 USD recently at NameJet, vs 3,500 USD on 2012-06-06 at Afternic. I’m guessing this was previously a NSFW site, or at least that’s what they had in mind.
Note: I didn’t do an exhaustive search of the ownership history of each domain. There are likely cases where there were multiple owners between the sales prices I list.
