Domain Shane’s Daily List of Domains at Auction for Monday June 12th

Escrow.com

Another DomainSherpa show out today and I think you’ll like this one.  Not because of the names that came up to discuss, but the rest of the conversation.  Drew is having a really good month in domains and it comes across in his passion.  Just loving what he’s doing.  Some talk on twitter about taking down shows that had Adam Dicker and how it effected the people that were part of the shows. Before I discuss let me add this. This is me talking.   I have never had a discussion with Mike about it and its my thoughts only.

It’s tough for Michael and really a no win.  You leave Dicker on there and put a disclaimer and you have the people that watch and ignore the disclaimer (nobody pays attention to any TOS or disclaimers) and you risk the possibility that people think Dickers is legit and give him leads.   You take it down and lots of hard work and content go into the trash.  It’s an easy decision to make from the couch.  I’m glad I’m not making it.  It can’t be easy losing half your content because someone who you thought added value was actually toxic and preying on viewers.  I too put in a lot of hours for free.  My payment is visibility and when that’s taken away I worked for nothing.  But that’s business.  I have worked so many hours building something that resulted in nothing but experience.  And I’m cool with that.  Every one on the show that was a regular panelist has and got plenty of visibility.  Lost past episodes hurt, but we didn’t sign up for residuals

The only thing we can do about this is we move forward from here and create more good content.  Anyone in the industry has the opportunity to create their own content.  Creating a show like DomainSherpa isn’t hard, but its a lot of work.  Work that nobody else is willing to do.  Its much easier to type a few characters out than to do a show.   Rick Schwartz said something himself .  I would quote exactly but I couldn’t find it since he sends out a few tweets each day that add up.  But it was something to the effect of.  If you have a wonderful meal but it has a little piece of shit in it the whole meal is ruined regardless of how big the piece of shit is.   So putting a disclaimer on it is like serving a meal and warning there is going to be some shit in your meal.  That doesn’t work.  “But we had tweets and Facebook posts talking about the meals”  Yes they did, they led to the shit meals.  “Cyger should have picked better panelist”  Cyger did not know he had shit in his meal until a bunch of people started tasting the shit.   It’s not like he was wearing a shirt that said I am going to steal your money.  And if it was obvious why didn’t anyone else stop it before all the shows were created?    In short, its not my show.  I am a guest.  But I get why things were handled how they were.  I feel bad for everyone that lost their hard work but its done.  Time to throw out the shit meal and start cooking again.   Here are today’s names. 10 Replies to “Domain Shane’s Daily List of Domains at Auction for Monday June 12th”

  1. Despite being very new on the domaining block I seem to be asked semi-regularly for beginner advice .. my answer 9 times out of 10 is .. go listen to all past Domain Sherpa shows and read sites and blogs like DSAD.com .. I definitely see the problem on both sides .. but I can’t say Michael made the wrong decision .. it’s lesser of two evils so to speak. Must have really hurt to kill all that content!

That being said .. those reviews in question have been down for ages .. as far as I remember they’ve only gone back to mid-2015 .. and I’ve been listening since later part of last year.

Would you believe DomainDrama.com is already taken?

  2. Great domainsherpa show, as always Shane! Real good to hear how experienced domainers think of certain topics. We really do appreciate it!

  3. Many of us did email Michael 2-3 years back about Adam Dicker and the shit he pulled when working at Godaddy, he never responded. A learning lesson, be careful who the so called experts are in this industry, because they are not. Michael does a great job, best interviewer not only in the business, but one of the best I have seen.

  4. On the bright side, I bought like 300 4L’s back in those days for $20 or there about. Thank you Dicker for telling everyone you sold them everyday for at least $5k. Here’s the bigger point; the guy was obviously accomplished on some level in the industry, Cyger can only vet someone so far, and there was only circumstantial issues i.e. Godaddy. The bastard was still winning domain awards for F sake. Anyone, shit bag or not can have good industry advice and or crap advice, the viewer should process advice from anyone objectively pulling out the bits the resonant and work the best for them.

    1. Cyger censors critical comments on his site. That’s his right but when viewers were publicly questioning Dicker’s bogus claims like making $xx,xxx/mo from his mini-sites and other nonsensical boasts, Cyger should’ve done some real fact checking instead of backing and defending his boy in the comments sections. And when the shit finally hit the fan and Cyger could no longer defend Dicker, he swept everything under the rug. No explanation. No acknowledgement of what happened even if it wasn’t all Cyger’s fault. To this day, he has not addressed it. That’s a testament to his character or lack thereof.

Life is full of hard decisions. Sometimes you have to do the tough thing. Own up to mistakes and the like. I’m glad Schwartz is calling him out on it.

      1. Tony,

Are you saying that Michael Cyger has a lack of character? Just want to make sure I am reading this right “To this day, he has not addressed it. That’s a testament to his character or lack thereof” I am not going to try and sway your thoughts but Michael is one of the most honest and generous people I know. How he handled things is left to judgement by you all. Glad you are getting what you want with Rick calling him out. At least one person is getting something positive out of this.

  5. Does anybody even watch Domain Sherpa anymore? I know of no experienced domainers do, maybe the “noobies”. Michael Cyger is a great guy, much respect to him, just not the same without Berkens Schwartz, and Page Howe on the show.

  6. “Michael is one of the most honest and generous people I know. ”

And I would have agreed with that until the past few days.

THAT is what is so disappointing and sad. I can no longer say that. I have no reason to have any faith in him whatsoever as ANOTHER day passes and Berkens and I are just insignificant garbage. I guess we were used for his purpose at the time and now we are just TRASH to him. Not worthy!

Definitely not a MENSCH in my book!

    1. Rick,

I think the problem here is that you do not respect his decision to remove the shows. It sounds like he either does what you want him to do or you are going to be mad. And after today’s twitter posts I can’t see you ever being put back up and wouldn’t fault him from removing all your shows from the site. Calling someone dishonest is as bad as it gets and you’ve accused him of a lot of things today. I am Michael’s friend just like you are Berkens friend and I hate seeing all this. Its ridiculous. I see zero reasons for all this happening. The one guy that’s putting out good unique content and you are trying to take him down because he won’t put your shit up. You even told him you are going to try and have his advertisers drop him. Try and financially hurt him. You really love the industry.

  7. Thanks for all you do Rick. I appreciate everything you have done for me, going back to 2000 when we were on the Afternic chat boards. I give you Rick and Michael Berkens all the credit for the success I had in this industry, and I want to say thanks.
