Domain Shane’s Daily List of Domains at Auction for Sunday May 7th

If you own a business that sells products or service you know that pricing is a huge determinate of sales and profits.  Finding the perfect price is the goal but its much easier said than done.   One, because most companies don’t know their true cost.  They may know their input costs but they don’t usually have a good grasp of costs once they factor in all costs from employee benefits to marketing and every touch and expense in the middle.  Sure it can be figured out if everything is documented but some expenses aren’t occurred until the process in underway.  Meaning that after the first year you realize your price is off.   And even if you know complete costs, most company have trouble with value.  Is it worth more or less than the margins you are hoping to achieve?  How much are your buyers willing to pay.  Companies will use focus groups and other data to try and figure this out as well.

It’s something I work on every day.   I never operate on margin.  I certainly have a margin I am trying to achieve as a final result.  But I know value of what I can get for each product and my goal is to get the product cheaper.  And we’re pretty cheap because we can grow it.   I’m competing against other stores that have to buy it in. So I can usually be cheaper and be much more profitable on the plants side.  The other products I struggle to compete.  Lowes is buying shovels by the truckload.  Miracle Gro cost them 1/3 of what I pay.  I can’t compete anymore.  I purposely sell only the higher end of those markets so I can at least have sales to people that are looking for the higher end products. I have zero chance on commodity type items.

Domains are completely different.  They are the exact opposite of commodity products.  There are some similarities. Figuring out pricing on your domains will yield you more profits.  But its not nearly as easy as commodity products.  It comes down to one person wanting it.  Instead of trying to price for thousands or millions of buyers.  You can find price points that work for certain types of domains but often you’re just not sure why one sold and others don’t.  Josh has done a good job figuring it out. Mike Mann claims he has (but what doesn’t he claim). Like any business, getting it right will make you rich.  Or at least richer. With domains the only way you know you got it right is by a sale.  Even then you’re never quite sure if it was high enough.  Here are today’s names.    Click for Current Price.
