Pretty much my entire life I have sold things “too early”. The reason there is a plural on things instead of thing is because I used the money from the first thing to buy the next thing I sold too early on. I sold all my Michael Jordan 86 fleer before they became worth $5K to $30K. But I was in college and every month I could go to the card store and sell it for $1000 to $1500 and have money to live on. I had a lot of them and paid $50 to $100 or even less some times so that kind of money was impossible to resist. I don’t regret a thing. I had an entire collection of Jordan originals from 1 to 13 in every color made. I sold the set for around $12K. The Jordan original 85s are probably worth close to that with the box. I sold them to buy some Apple stock, a bike, and a few other things. I rode that bike combined with some running, to lose 50 lbs. I don’ regret it a bit. I have 5 other stories like that and every one ends up with me making money on the deal and bettering my life.
So I’m not a millionaire (actually I am but its in my business and land) but I’m not rich like many domain investors. But I am more life rich than most people I meet. I am as happy as a person can be and I look forward to every day. I have woken up to a person next to me that loves me and a daughter that is better than I ever could have imagined she would turn out. I talk to my Dad every day and I will see my Mom again Saturday.

Have a name at auction and need more exposure? Send me an email. I Charge $10 per name per day. We may be able to help. If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details.*All names chosen by me, Shane . (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything I say is based on my own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or my opinion is correct. I hand choose my names but I am paid to make this list by the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links. Keep that in mind and only buy names that YOU think are good
Shane,
That is my all time favorite post. A successful business starts with a healthy and happy life. Great job and thanks for sharing.
Cheers
Thanks Ken. I think I reached the “enough money” point a few years ago and realized that I better start appreciating all the “real” things. I can alway make more money and will continue to do so but I am willing to sacrifice potential income for potential happiness. But everyone is different. I have told my daughter since the day she could understand. You can have anything you want in this world. Just temper your wants.
Thanks for sharing a bit of your career path, your view on business and life in general. I totally can relate to your “hustle” from early and on and enjoy domaining as my side hobby/business.
Money is a great tool and we all wants lots of it., however there are things money just can’t buy.
Great posts!
Buy Pamela a shirt or a mug 🙂
Tell your mom hi for me!
The first part of this post is so beautiful that I haven’t bothered to read the second part (the list) 🙂
I liked your view on parents 🙂
