Yesterday on Twitter I mentioned the ICA is auctioning off two domain to raise some much needed funds.
In a nutshell, the ICA was trying to come up with ways to bring in more money. Discussed were a lot of things were mostly fee based changes. I knew that NamesCon is a great place to raise money but needed some creative ideas. ICA had already tried to get people to donate names to sell at the auction but the entire amount of the name would go to ICA. Naturally nobody wanted to give up good names. Mediocre names wouldn’t make the main auction and would just blend in to the other post auction names which led to little money being raised. So we had to come up with something that would draw good names.
So what if we could get Monte and Godaddy to waive most of the fees and give their normal percentage back to the ICA. That way we could go to some members and see if they wanted a guaranteed spot at the main live auction with them paying no more fees than if they submitted a name privately? Monte in return gets to do a good deed, would have two good names in the auction above and beyond what he was going to have anyway, and get some free publicity. Monte generously said he would do it. Except that only Matt Wegrzyn put up Directions.com and not many other names that were worthy of the live auction or reserves that were almost guarantee a sale. I wanted to put up a name originally but I figured with so many big players there would be plenty of names. I also didn’t want it to look like I proposed an idea planned around myself. But a second name never got filled. So I put in Toolchest.com at no reserve. I figured it was a win win for everyone and it was a strong enough name to gather its own bids and I could do my part to help advertise the two names.
No reserve which is a big risk to me and I received several emails and texts wondering why I went no reserve. I did it because I think no reserve names generally get more bids and action if it is a good name and it guarantees money to the ICA. In short, I am confident that the name will do fine, the auction will have some added excitement, and everyone will win.

If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details.*All names chosen by us, Shane and Josh . (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything we say is based on our own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or our opinion is correct. We hand choose the names but we are paid to make this list by both the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links. Keep that in mind and only buy names that YOU think are good.
ToolChest.com is an amazing name and should do great at auction.
