So I’ve not run 7 miles in 2 weeks. Might be a new low for me. I always take off the week after the marathon and this past Monday was supposed to be my marathon so I did what I would have normally have done. I also taper the week before the marathon. I just tapered amazingly well. Like 7 miles all week taper. I haven’t run because I have been working until 10-11 or later most nights and I just can’t get up at 4:30 like I usually do. It’s not enough sleep. I could do it short term but working 100 hours a week plus and lack of sleep would set me up for failure. Running is a huge part of my life but missing a month of it certainly won’t hurt me and it may be a good rest for my body. I’ve actually lost quite a bit of weight because since I’m not running my hunger is pretty much zero. I eat breakfast, a sandwich for lunch, and a regular dinner. That’s pretty much it. Add in the walking all day and the reduced calories and I’m at race weight without even running.
I do miss my old schedule but I’ll get back to it eventually. Getting out of routine is good for you. Give you a new way of looking at things to see if what you are doing is what’s best for you. I know running is great for me but I’ve also seen that taking some time off isn’t going to hurt my speed long term. Just going to hurt a little coming back. I’m going to try and get 35-40 miles in this week and build back up to my 80 miles a week by mid summer. Even my slow will be faster than Michael Cyger. 🙂
